:rotfl: re the adult boys. I think Coffee got lucky :rotfl:

    This made me LOL! :rotfl::rotfl:

I wish i could travel more, there are so many exciting, wonderful places i would like to visit. I guess when i have no debt to worry about this could happen.

I get that alot i budget and it leaves a little left over and i then think i can pay that off debt but always then have in my mind what if something comes up, i am getting to a stage where i have a little behind me but not alot.

Agreed it would be nice to see the balance drop, maybe you could off a little amount

I'm always thinking about travel, or paying debt, or where I can afford to travel whilst paying debt :rotfl:
  • Hi All

Not much MSE today, other than just requested about £8 be withdrawn from T0pcashback. Will pay that off the B/card, maybe I'll round it up to a nice even tenner as well!

I really need to stop looking at anything money related by 8.30/9pm on weekdays. I end up going to bed thinking about it and then not sleeping, and with a 5am alarm and a long drive to work, it's not the best combination lol.

Mucking around with figures and spreadsheets again this evening (shocker ). I really want all debts paid the payday before I am 40, which will be 25th October 2024. If I pay £500 a month from my next payday then I will meet this target, but unfortunately I can't afford that until January, so I'll be a couple of months behind. I'll be planning on doing overpayments as well, and I hope to get it all paid before that. I want age 39 and 11 months to be my maximum final target date!

I have some stuff to figure out with my mortgage and help to buy in the next couple of years as well. It's so complicated I can't even be bothered to write it all down at the moment, lol. Long story short I want to pay it back in January 2022 via a bigger mortgage, otherwise I could fall in to the trap of paying £40-£50 a month interest to the government in 2023 (for one year) which is essentially dead money, because that loan becomes interest only. At the moment the equity in my property may have gone down, and whilst I'm hopeful to get it sorted in 2022 I'm feeling a bit deflated and not 100% positive about it.

At the moment I'm thinking get B/card paid by the end of this year (this is getting a bit tight), T/card by the end of next year, and then I'll see whether to overpay my bank loan (which I'll need to do to get it paid before I'm 40), or put money aside for mortgage stuff.

Anyway, verbal vomit and all that! :rotfl:

Hope everyone had a nice day.

**Just noticed the MSE clock on here is an hour behind. At least mine is?
  • Hey! I got very super lucky with the boy I think, I'm very appreciative, as the previous boy was basically a child who needed everything doing for him :)

I found that if I do the money first thing in the day and try and forget it in the evening I sleep better, otherwise I stare at excel for two hours before bed and can't sleep lol.

15 pots - think that's a new record! I have 12 in use at the mo. One of them is a holiday pot.... :D But I do know what you mean about £1 here and there, both my LISA provider and my credit ccard must think i'm nuts with all these £1 payments!

Well the new boy sounds lovely, well done on finding him!

I do sometimes look at money in the mornings, but I wake up at 5am and leave about 6.15 so I don't really have enough time :( I just need to start being a bit stricter in the evenings.

I do have a lot of pots, I'm starting to wonder if the bank will notice and think I'm a freak! :rotfl: I don't have something in all of them yet, but I plan to. I've got them for Home Improvements (small amount to re-decorate, all cosmetic), 2020 holiday, Christmas, Birthdays, Ground Rent, Hairdressers, Opticians, Dentist, Car stuff (tax, service, MOT, emergency fixes), Clothes, Emergency Fund, Out Out (felt like I could put a bit here and there maybe), Debts (money I want to pay down debt with but am holding on to for one reason or another), Help to Buy Fees (for 2021 really so might not use it yet, but I want visibility), and one currently called For September (which is money I want to keep aside for the next month as I need to top up what I'll have, it will change month by month when I need to use it). I'm going to put a set amount in to most each month. Any more pots though and I may not have enough money to build them up, they'll all end up with a couple of quid in :rotfl:

What's your view on the LISA? I was thinking of opening one and putting in £5 a month, at least at the beginning, but over the next 30ish years it only gives me about £2k.
  • Hi All!

Had quite an MSE day today. Not huge but enough to make me yay!

Went to the dentist today thinking it was going to be £46, but it was £22.70! So I saved £23.30 which I've sent to another bank to pay off the B/Card once the new statement comes in.

After the dentist I went to Mr T's and found some frozen chopped garlic, frozen chopped chorizo and frozen chopped chilli. I'm always throwing away garlic bulbs or paste as I just don't get through them, so these packs will be perfect and I'm sure save me money in the long run. Wondering if to try frozen chopped onions but I feel so lazy. I'm sure it would save me money though. I'm sure I've tried them before and wasn't keen so I might try the Mr T brand. I tried the garlic, chilli and chorizo in the sauce I made for sausage pasta tonight and it was lovely, plus I have enough for the next two days lunches. I think I can make it better (more chorizo definitely). I'm really excited by these frozen bits to add to meals. They had frozen herbs that I might think about as well.

Hope everyone has had a good Tuesday!
  • I'm using the LISA for house deposit as I'll be a first time buyer, going to aim to get 3 years worth of bonus at max contributions so fingers crossed at the end of the three years I'll have 15K deposit (god bless the south east house prices!). First cut off is next year so my plan at the moment is to get moved, get the emergency fund sorted and then pay minimums to debt and fill up the LISA. It seems counter intuitive saving that much whilst still paying off debt, but the 25% bonus is way too much to turn down, and all the debt is on 0%. Depending on how the buying process goes for us I might be able to sneak a 4th years bonus out of it, because the bonus gets added monthly not at the end of the year. But that's a long way off yet, we will see when we get there. Over and above that, I won't use it for retirement savings as my work pension does the trick for that :) BUT I am by no means an expert on this, so probably get advice from someone who knows what they are actually talking about haha!

Love the out out pot! I need one of those, currently it all gets lumped in 'fun money' but I've noticed my spend on out has gone up recently, need to reign it in!

  • Hi All

So I took the money I had put aside for debts incase I needed it out of it's pot today and paid it off the card, along with £52.30, so thats £252.30 paid off and £363.74 left to find before my target at the end of the year.

Just been watching Watchdog, apparently M0nzo are freezing people out of accounts for weeks on end and closing accounts for no apparent/explained reason. Seems like it could be to do with how they deal with fraud, or what they think could be fraud. I don't have my wages paid in, but I transfer alot for food/petrol/savings/spends each month.. Not sure if to back off them for a bit or what :undecided

    Happy Thursday everyone!
  • So I have just added to my signature how much I have paid off since the start of my diary, and I can't believe I've paid off £1842.16 in just over 2 and a half months. How????
I pay £432.66 in min payments on my T/Card and T/Loan a month, plus the B/Card I think has been about £20 min (haven't taken too much notice as I've just kept paying). That's £1357.98 in min payments, and I've managed to find another £484.18 in that time. I really didn't think I'd paid that much! This has made me feel really positive at what I can get paid off! :j:j:j
  • Just read your diary, hope you don't mind me dropping in. Awesome progress made in such a short time, well done!
I'm also a big fan of chopped frozen food, our freezer always has chilli/garlic/ginger/onions. They're so and I was always throwing these items out when buying fresh so definitely saving money and reducing waste in our house by buying frozen.
