Hi
I recently had a smart meter fitted and have just swapped suppliers, my new supplier has asked for me to submit a reading to them within 9 days, but I have never used this meter before and all it displays is a blank screen, so 2 questions I have are
1. How do I read the meter to give them the correct number that they want and
2. How do I read it so I can calculate the usage into costs given that my new supplier quoted me in KWatts hour/ over the price in pence
Thanks
TT

Can you describe your meter please ?
Mine has a simple black button which has to be pressed to liven the display up. Others have a keypad where you press button 9.
Watch out for a decimal point - mine electric reads 001234.5 and the company wants 001234. My gas 01234.567 and the company wants 01234
Don't forget the electric gives kwhs's directly, the gas is m3 (but don't try to convert it into kwh when giving readings to the company)
Get into the habit of reading the meter every month, keep your ow records, read and understand your bills.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Posting a photo of the meter might also allow others to help. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0

BTW anyonoe remember my removed post and last user name, think the post was called how to get out of debit free with a strawman youtube video, and when I asked why it was removed I was told some BS storry about how the forum is moderated my its own member and not the hidden hard that actully do run this

So after criticising most that tried to help you in your last thread you now want to ask the minions of the corporative world advice again?:rotfl::rotfl:The world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon0 -

Are you referring to the gas meter, the electricity meter or the portable unit (the In Home Display) ?
Were you not given any instructions?
The IHD will need to be plugged into a mains socket or to have batteries in place.0 -
If as others have said you have problems posting an image (quite likely) simply write down the Make/Model from the meter itself and tell us that, then we can tell you how to read it. Such as:
Liberty 120
Elster AS300
Alclara
etc etc
Better still, if you find a web page with said meter on it (your meter) post a link to that page.0 -
I hope this link works, and I hope you can all see it properly

From the photo, pressing the 9 button should give you your reading. The display is not brilliant, so make sure you notice the decimal point.
Take two readings, subtract the largest from the smallest, to give you the number of kWh used and multiply this by your unit price. Then add on the number of days between the two readings multiplied by your standing charge.0 -
That looks identical to my SMETS1 smart meter which is currently "dumb" as it no longer automatically submits readings to my provider since changing from OVO.
PennineAcute is right, pressing the number 9 will give your current meter reading in kWh. If it says something like "123456.78" ignore the last two numbers after the decimal point and only submit the numbers before the decimal point exactly as you see them.
Here is a video if you need to see how it's done.0 -
All the suppliers I work for who use this meter ( Secure Liberty 100 smart electric meter ) request the first 7 digits before the decimal point.ignore the last digit.
This meter is also in the list if it is fitted in SMETS1 status where it can be upgraded OTA to SMETS2 status in nearly all of the specs except anti hacking security0
