What is the Cost of Cancelling a Mobile Contract

How do they actually work out the cost of cancelling a contract. I am 14 months into a contract with Orange and i have - as advised by this site - tried to day to reduce the cost of my tariff but they will ony do it in two stages over two months from £35 per mth to 30 then 25. This seems stupid and pointless, anyone have any idea what the cost will be to cancel now.

They will charge you the value of the unpaid months line rental - based on your present rental.

cheers, i have been on the phone today to try & reduce it, but they will only do it a month at a time...... is this right or can i demand a reduction. I asked for the min tariff, but they refused.

no you cant, they will only reduce it as you outlined above

You don't say what reason you want to terminate, but if you just want to end the contract, then they are entitled to the termination fee as set out in the contract (which you will have accepted when first starting the contract).

It will be cheaper for you to not cancel, but do the 2 stage tariff downgrading they are prepared to do.

Then cancel once you have hit the lowest tariff they will reduce to.

Do not get me wrong i accept if i want to cancel i have to pay to come out, i just thought the staged reductions were a little petty.
