Cancelling a Package Holiday with Jet2holidays

Hi,
I’m new to this forum and was looking advice.
I have just been diagnosed with cancer, I was due to go on holidays in 10days but instead need to cancel it and go for surgery
I booked my package holiday on 1st July 2019 through Jet2holidays, all inclusive 2 adults, 2 kids and an infant all paid for when booking. At the booking I availed of Jet2holidays extras and booked family travel insurance (essential cover).
I have no idea how to go about cancelling my holiday or trying to reclaim back the cost of it or even if I can. Any tips and advice would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks for any advice or help
At the time of booking my holidays, I was having no investigations or test in relation to my diagnosis.

Did you have insurance in place when you booked or soon after?0 -
shel I booked my travel insurance at the same time as I booked holiday on 1st July.0

So ring the insurance company, they'll advise on the next steps. Not sure how long it will take to get your money back.
Hope your treatment goes well.0 -
Call your insurance company and start the claim process.
They will require confirmation from your doctor so it may be worth getting that asap.0 -
Ok thanks everyone for the replies, will get in contact with insurance company this morning.0

What an idiotic comment. The OP has just been diagnosed with cancer, is it any surprise they may not be thinking too clearly and asking for help?0 -
Hig - It's definitely possible to get your money back. Only recently I had a family member diagnosed with cancer and they contacted the airline and got their money back. You'll need confirmation of diagnosis/treatment etc from the doctors/hospital, of course.
Good luck with the treatment.0 -
As long as you were diagnosed after 1st July (ie after you took the insurance out) there should be no problem.
We had the same 18 months ago when Mrs Indout was diagnosed with cancer. She had to have forms filled in by the doctor which the insurance company sent, not sure if we had to pay for the doctor to fill them but I think we did.
After that no problem at all getting money back, think it took around 6 weeks in total.
Good luck with your treatment.Totally Debt Free & Mortgage Free Semi retired and happy0 -
Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, hope all goes well x0
