So here goes....
I took out a credit card with Clydesdale Bank. I tried to use it a week ago to buy an iPhone. The card was declined on first use. I called them. They released the card saying it would now work. I tried again, this time I got to the MasterCard secure code screen and completed the details. Once past this, the car got declined again. I gave up.
I tried again today. After being taken from the Phone site to the MasterCard SecureCode screen, it immediately said that it had failed and to call the 0800 number. I did and spoke to MasterCard. They told me that it had failed because I had entered the wrong Secure Code. I had not entered any code. Despite this they said it would ow work.
I tried again and same issue. I called the and this is what I was told:-
"It's not working because the system is down for maintenance between 10:30pm and 11pm."
They also told me that it's down every night at this time Mon to Fri. I asked so what happens if you are at an airport trying to book a flight and maybe paying for fuel. They told me that the card would not work during that time.
Are you !!!!!!! serious ???? This sounds like a total load of crap to me. If that's true then !!!!!!!
So if you are thinking of taking out a Clydesdale CC then think perhaps don't bother.

I suspect you've been fed a bunch of bull manure.
I've never known any financial institution that doesn't continue to process card payments, even during their "down time."0 -

Curve card does if they are doing maintenance they tell you that while they are doing it your card may or will not work, though they usually do this maintenance at 2 or 3am.Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0 -

Which isn't going to bother most people in the UK, but could be very awkward if you are trying to pay for dinner in New York. Curve is a great idea, but until they fix their reliability issues, it will never be the only the card I carry.0 -
Why did you go with Clydesdale?
Soon to be fully part of Virgin ?0 -

The other way round. Virgin Money will be a brand name used by Clydesdale, or more correctly CYBG
CYBG PLC is an independent banking group incorporating Clydesdale Bank, Yorkshire Bank, Virgin Money and the digital banking platform B.0 -

i read this post with interest as i also have a similar problem with a mastercard credit card never got to the bottom of the problem and couldn't be bothered its my assumption its a mastercard secure code error glitch rather than anything to do with clydsdale but others will probably know far more about that.0 -

It's not Clydesdale, and its probably not Mastercard, because their software gets used thousands of times a day by customers using their Mastercard for the first time. I think you are going to have to persevere with Mastercard to get the card working correctly. You might also apply for a Visa card next time, so you have two different service providers available for when one of them has a glitch. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0

Yes, not a Clydesdale issue, so it's wrong to blame them. This is a MasterCard problem. Blame them.0
