Claiming Back PPI Fees

Hi!

I have finally received a settlement figure from Lloyds. I ended up using a claims firm as when I first tried claiming back the PPI etc. about five years ago (and went to the Ombudsman), they repeatedly claimed that I had never had an account with them.

I'm happy with the settlement figure and the costs involved with the claims firm, but I was wondering if I could chance trying to push Lloyds to pay me back the fees on a separate complaint/claim? I'm only thinking this because I made a complaint and claim on my own behalf and Lloyds just kept saying that they had no record of me and denied my claim. But someone else steps in on my behalf (with no further information than I originally provided) and suddenly they have all my details and enough information to calculate a settlement figure!

Anyway, any help or thoughts appreciated. I was only 18 when I took out the loan and was pretty much strong armed into taking the PPI (i.e. no PPI no loan), I didn't want to use the claims firm but here we are.

Understand that it was entirely your own choice to employ the third party and the Claim firm were just fortunate that instead of simply approaching the Bank again yourself you decided you'd rather pay someone to do it for you.

Understand also that the Claim Company involvement was incidental not instrumental; if you had contacted the Bank again yourself following the free complaint procedure you would have had the same successful result.

So the Bank won't pay the Claims Company fee (or VAT) for you I'm afraid.

    Is this a joke question?

    Get real
  • Jaysus, was that entirely necessary?!? I was just asking a question. I didn't realise it was a crime to ask for help on a forum based on helping people!

If you don't have something constructive to say, then jog on.

    Thanks. I appreciate your response.

I had complained to the bank, several times, over a period of three years, each time getting the same response. I followed the advice and used the letters on this site to no avail. Even escalating it to the Ombudsman got me nowhere.

A number of the banks have been bringing back old, long archived records onto their systems. In most cases, the banks have been cross-referencing those records with historic complaints to see if the new information changes the outcome.

in all probability, the bank would have got around to you at some point. However, the CMCs know the banks are doing this and as repeat requests are prioritised over the backwards review, all the CMC did was bring your case forward.

So, you didnt need to use a CMC. But as you did, you pay for that. Sorry.

It doesn't matter, the Claim Company's involvement had no affect on the result of your renewed complaint.

    How was the Ombudsman involved?

You had no access to the Ombudsman since your earlier complaints were not actually rejected, the Bank just said they could find no record.

Earlier, you said you were "happy" with the fee charged.

So pay it, no one else will...
