Where to, these days? Already got the decent ones.

I think the idea would be to a fee free account to avoid the hassle of closing it on the phone. The other option would be to just downgrade to a flex account.

Just switch to an account that you already have. The DDs and SOs will be transferred, stray credits will be forwarded, and you don't have to ring the losing bank.

With Nationwide I believe you can request account closure online, no need to call...

Oh, dear! More whittling away of benefits!

We moved to NW from HSBC Premier after 50 years with Midland etc as they whittled away the benefits and their over-70 extra insurance fee was exorbitant.

We will keep it for the WW insurance, as well as breakdown cover and the good C/card - while these last.

I've held this account for about six years now, and have already seen the price rise from £10 to £13 per month, and lost the benefits of the extended warranty and id protection. I've also seen the loss of the regular saver and rates on my cash isa drop.

I'm in this for the worldwide travel insurance, mobile insurance and breakdown cover. The fee-free withdrawls are a bonus, however I already have a curve card that offers the same benefit.

Will have to weigh up the alternatives now - Monzo and Curve, as well as the other big players all have competing accounts at similar prices.
  • Don't forget about customer service. Whenever I call Nationwide, someone picks up the phone quite quickly. No waiting for ages. Curve has only support via app.

Me too, mainly because i've got pre existing medical conditions, and even with the additional fee for covering those and now the age fee as well, my annual policy is STILL at least £200 cheaper than anywher else, be they specialist or mainstream, so i'll be swallowing the loss of interest and continuing with NW FP this year.
