I would buy a few quids worth of fuel and throw it on the ground and around the car - then call in the police.

Or use a couple of trolley jacks and leave it in the road, badly.

Their mistake was alerting the authorities. 4X4 and pull it off the driveway but its too late for that now.
    Don’t be a can’t, be a can.

"I was told we couldn’t block it in as it’s illegal"

Not quite correct. Of course they can park behind it, as long as they act within a reasonable time to move their car once the vehicle owner returns and requests to be allowed to exit. :)

It seems they already did something similar - it's mentioned in the article. :)

I'd buy a clamp or put a post in my drive behind it. Or just break a window and report it as abandoned to the council, not old bill.

I read somewhere that it was a criminal offence to block it.

They changed the law to protect people from clamping companies etc... However, it has left people hanging.

The only way forward seems to be for people to protect their own spaces with parking posts....

Blocking in vehicles (or clamping) and either requiring payment for the release or refusing to remove the block, became illegal when the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 became law on 1st October 2012. (Private companies and individuals only ... Councils and other enforcement agencies can still legally clamp).

The underlined bit is key ... if you block in a vehicle but don't refuse to remove the block (yet take a reasonable time to remove the block) then no offence is committed. :)

I'd have waited until no one was looking, then quietly moved it.

    * and yes, to my shame, I have done it in the past. They'd blocked me in . .

"Sorry mate, you've been there so long I didn't think you were coming back. I've had a bit of wine. I'll be sober in the morning.."
