Viruses Galore!!! Arrrgh Help!!!

Hey guys,

Im quite up to date with all the PC protection I use: (Ad aware, AVG anti virus, CCleaner, Spybot, superantispyware)

I checked the tutorial on this site and did a online scan (Housecall) using the Trendmicro site. I was shocked and amazed at the results.

It found multiple adware infections and virus infections that the other programmes didnt pick up. (Downloader_VB trojan, Mediaforge adware and some other little nasties) I carried on with the scan to remove them and the webpage froze and the PC started making funny noises.

Any idea on how I can sort this out? Im incredibly worried now.

thanks in advance :)

Update your avg and try scanning in safe mode. If that doesn't find anything try the free kaspersky online scan but if it finds anything write down the location as it won't actually sort anything out . Then try and delete anything you've got manually. There are very few results for this d/loader thing on a google search so maybe the whole intention is to scare people into paying for something they don't need.

Do as spakker says, they really could be false positives so wouldn't worry too much yet. The online scanners that require payment for fixing do tend to be a bit overzealous.

According to PC World the top three are BitDefender, McAfee and Kaspersky Lab. You could try them and see if you get rid of the viruses. I once had a nasty virus on my machine and I got great advice from a different forum but I cannot find the details right now. Good luck.

trend micro will frighten the pants off you. it claims to detect lots of things that are not actually present, i.e. the so called false positives.

If you keep a regular round of updating your software and conduct all scans periodically you should stay healthy.
:o Keep trying.........................what else is there to do? :o

True but it's excellent at identifying the bad stuff. If the scan report is posted here the malware can be picked out and removed manually.

Also, raz_uk, you need to post a HijackThis log here so we can at least get a start on finding what might be wrong.

By the way those noises ... do you still hear them or has that now stopped? Trouble is that "noises" indicate something odd - possibly downright bad - may be happening to your computer's hardware. You might like to back up everything on to another device to keep your precious data safe.

Your log has indications of McAfee software and AVG. Make sure you have only ONE antivirus and ONE firewall in operation at any one time.

Update your version of Spybot to the latest definitions and use it to scan your systems and remove any bad stuff it finds.

    ***********************

Turn off Spybot's TeaTimer tool as it may inhibit HJT's fixing process.

    ***********************

Please expose all Hidden Files & Folders.

To enable the viewing of Hidden files follow these steps:

    1. Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
    2. Double-click on the My Computer icon.
    3. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    4. After the new window appears select the View tab.
    5. Put a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Display the contents of system folders.
    6. Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files and folders.
    7. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide file extensions for known file types.
    8. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files.
    9. Press the Apply button and then the OK button and close My Computer.

    ***********************

I see you are using Download Accelerator Plus ("DAP").

DAP will load at startup and spy even when you are not downloading. It has malicious and/or suspicious advertising partners like funwebproducts and has data mining privacy breaches in addition to its advertising scheme.

DAP will try and reinstall. It will try and access the internet even if "removed"

HJT will not find all of the hidden DLL's but it's a start.

My advice? You can guess ... go to your Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and uninstall Download Accelerator Plus and anything related such as DAP, Speedbit etc.

Now go to your Program Files folder and delete anything present relating to DAP & its related spyware.

LET US KNOW whether you have decided to remove DAP.

(If you are unsure whether to remove/uninstall any particular program(s) post the program name(s) and details back here for more advice.)

    **********************************

Open HJT ... click on 'Do a System Scan Only'... put tick/check marks next to these entries IF still present ...

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - !!7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
    O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present >>> NOTE ON THIS ONE >>>
Fix this 06 entry with HJT if you or your system administrator did not set restrictions on the Control Panel.
    O16 - DPF: !!33331111-1111-1111-1111-611111193423} -

    O20 - AppInit_DLLs: C:\WINDOWS\system32\tmp_8l7.dll

Remember to close ALL open browser windows – including this one – before clicking on “Fix Checked” at the foot of the HijackThis window.

    *******************

    Empty your recycle bin.

    *******************

Rehide your Hidden Files & Folders and re-activate Spybot's TeaTimer tool by carrying out the reverse operation to that described at the start of this post & reboot to normal mode.

    *******************

    Download Superantispyware here ....

    http://www.superantispyware.com/

Update it to the latest definitions and have it run full scans on your entire systems on the default settings.

Let it fix whatever it finds.
    *******************

In your next post please include .....

    1. A fresh HJT log using the latest version of HJT thus ...

    http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/threat_analytics/HJTInstall.exe

    • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
    • Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
    • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
    • Click on Install.
    • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
    • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
    • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
    • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" and Paste the entire contents of the log (no attachments) into your next post.
DO NOT use the ”AnalyseThis” button. Its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.

    2. Confirmation of what you did on DAP.

    3. An update on how the computer is operating now.

There will be more work to do.
