If you indicate where you are people may be able to suggest local places.
Salvation Army furniture project Stirling tends to be cheaper than ACE Alloa, and the S Army have fridges and dishwashers too (not many washing machines, I don't know if they don't get many or if they sell quickly). Small charity shops tends to be expensive for furniture, I find.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
First Aid kit, basic toolbox, torch, candles & matches and a couple of ring binders/box files for all your new house paperwork.

And draw maps of the house with where the water stopcock, the gas & electric meters are & any cut off switches. File at the front of the ringbinder & tape a bit of hi-vis material to the spine so it'll flash under a torchlight. (What me, go looking for things in the dark?!)
If you can afford to, change the locks?
How are you for clothesline, pegs & (even) a washing machine?
Have a box of sanitary doings (old ice cream tub usually fine, size wise) in one loo so the lads get used to the presence and the lasses never have to wonder.0
