Domestic Cleaners

Hi all,
I hope this is the right place to post!
I'm thinking about getting a cleaner for an hour or two a week, as OH and I both work long hours and argue about cleaning when the house is messy.
Has anyone got one? What's the going rate? I'm in Yorkshire if that makes a difference. What kind of cleaning do they do for you, and are they worth it? How do you go about finding a good one? The only time I've hired a cleaner was from Facebook Marketplace for an end of tenancy clean, and we used someone who broke our hoover and still left us with a cleaning fee from the landlord, so not the best experience!
Also, OH doesn't like the idea of someone coming into the house when we're not there, but we both work from home a fair amount and I'd actually prefer them to come when we're out. Can we ask them to not go in the bedroom, for example?
I appreciate this may not be the most "moneysaving" thread, but £20 odd for the sake of a tidy house I can keep on top of is well worth it for the sake of my sanity!

Best way to get a good one is by personal recommendation from someone you know0

We pay £12 an hour and it saved our marriage.
They'll do whatever they're asked to .
Ours came via recommendation and he's been with us for 4 years. He's a star.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

That's great, thanks. How many hours do you get a week?0 -
We had one many years ago. She was very good. Can't remember how much she cost.
I'd say that one who comes on recommendation, and is a "known quantity" is a must.0 -
Part of the problem is I don't know anyone else who has a cleaner!0

:rotfl: No, just a privacy thing. It would be a compromise as OH doesn't really want strangers in the house at all (even with insurance and DBS and CRB checks etc), but I want a cleaner so I don't have to do all the cleaning. We wouldn't have guests in our bedroom, so why would we want someone in there cleaning it. Also the bedroom is the easiest room to keep clean!0 -
Have you a neighbourhood forum? People often post for gardeners, painters and cleaners on ours. I just do a search and note all the ones that have been recommended.0

Hmm. Human nature being what it is... aren't they going to go in to see what you're hiding?
Don't you want a clean bedroom?0 -
