I once rang a skip hire firm and said "Your daft driver has placed the skip the wrong way round in the driveway entrance instead of on the drive, so now we can't load it with a barrow or get onto our property without climbing over the fence from next door."
There was a long pause, then a voice said "You're speaking to the daft driver. I'm going to take the skip away and you're blacklisted!"
He did too. Round trip of 25 miles for no payment, when he could've just turned it round and pushed it back. Double idiocy.0 -

So I put this question to you: Is it really worth losing a good neighbourhood and property value for the sake of ignorance?0 -
Tbh if this neighbour is a builder and wants to trade from home he should have bought an appropriate rural home with no neighbours and a decent amount of space / land.
IMO he is being very inconsiderate and two fingers up to his neighbours who he must surely know don't expect to have constant disturbance and noise.
I'm glad the OP has some hope of getting it sorted. If he wanted to live near a builders yard he would have done so.0 -
My husband is a builder, our home is his trading address , thats perfectly legal
If the skip is on his drive there is nothing you can do, Its perfectly legal to keep a skip on your own property
Whats their trading address got to do with the price of chips?
It is perfectly legal to keep a skip on your property. It is not perfectly legal to run business operations over a certain threshold, from your property.
You can raise it with the planning team at your council who should be able to assess if the extent of skip operations constitutes business use. If they do consider the amount constitutes business use they will likely ask him to cease, as the property will probably only have permission for C3 use. You could look on your councils website, there may be an email address to contact or some kind of online form. I suppose they may ask you to provide evidence. They are unlikely to have time to sit outside the property all week.
If the front garden is packed full of debris from this activity you might suggest they serve a Section 215 notice as well.0 -
I had similar issues, many years ago, with neighbor storing materials, including several propane gas cylinders right against our conservatory wall, which these days would no doubt need to be caged and have appropriate warning signs. The entire garden was a mess and despite the family being really friendly about things and we had a good relationship it wasn't acceptable.
My way of dealiong with this was to apply for a council tax reduction. this resulted in a very formal meeting in town hall, with their panel, as well as me providing pictures and completing countless forms first.
Result was the council asked how much reduction i expected, my reply was to say I'd prefer to not have the probleeam and pay the correct amount. This surprised them, got me a couple of hundred pounds reduction, the planning officer was instructed, at the same time, to address the problem, as well as, surprisingly him saying 'well done' and shake of hands, all in the council chambers.
Neighbor did tidy up, a bit, then moved house!

He doesn't have either a Waste Carrier's Licence or Waste Exemptions Permit which means he's breaking the law and all this can be checked online. Useful to know! Will contact the incident line and report. Thanks for all your help."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi
