Next door neighbour is a builder....

And as a result there is a skip permanently parked in the driveway which gets removed and filled at various times of the day. Not only is it noisy when it gets removed and replaced but it's also a permanent eyesore. And they use it to chuck any bricks and wood they have lying around
The builder is obviously using the house, which is in a small close as a business. Is there anything I can do about this? Have tried talking to him but he just ignores me.

To be totally straight Bob I'd ignore you too

Essentially it's his driveway and he can do what he wants with it, as long as he's not making noise at stupid times of the night.

So what, there's a little noise once a week or once a fortnight having it removed.

It might be quite handy having a builder next door that has a skip, if I were you I'd try to build a bridge rather than being a complaining neighbour.

My husband is a builder, our home is his trading address , thats perfectly legal

If the skip is on his drive there is nothing you can do, Its perfectly legal to keep a skip on your own property

If the builder rents the property from the local council, they may not be allowed to trade from the property.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

The presence of a skip and the noise of it being emptied now and then is a minor issue, especially when compared to poor neighbourly relations.

Yeah, you're right. Apart from the fact that they use it every day and driveway is jammed with the skip, broken window frames, concrete mixers etc, it's an absolute joy. I should be um...grateful.

So what if it's "jammed", it's his driveway. When you say "used" do you mean he's putting stuff in it or is it actually being collected/replaced every day?

I think being "used" everyday means a regular stream of his builders dumping their rubbish from various job sites.

Nothing you can do. Maybe check out number plates to check if they are taxed and insured.

It is replaced either once or twice a week and he and his builders load stuff from his van into the skip everyday. Throwing bricks into a skip is not the quietest job but the fact is it also is a massive eyesore. It's like living next to a junkyard. I'm not asking for manicured gardens and a water feature. Just not a virtual, noisy rubbish dump.
  • Just to be clear - no building work is taking place at his house. But he is using the skip as a collection point for all other building work that he is undertaking. If he was doing work on his house then fine, but to use it his driverway as a builders yard with vans coming in and out and unloading stuff from various jobs into the skip in a residential area is different.
