And no, that will show protective CIFAS markers (for victims of fraud) not CIFAS markers added for people who have (or are suspected to have) made fraudulent applications or committed fraud.
Only a direct request to CIFAS will show those.====0 -
Thanks, MSE doesn't have the most user-friendly mobile UX. Also thank you for the pointer, I will wait to see what CIFAS tell me, if anything. All I do know is that I committed no fraud - and all interpretation of why Barclays mean by section 11 of their T&C's is pure speculation. For what it's worth there might be a known terrorist with the same name and I would be the victim, but Barclays think they know better and are giving me no recourse. !!!!!! even known criminals with blatant evidence are still getting a trial where they get the chance to make their case - as slim as it may be.0

Don’t fixate on the criminal definition of fraud, application fraud which can lead to a CIFAS marker likely wouldn’t meet that threshold, but could cover some of the actions you did, like trying various versions of your name and different addresses in order to get accepted. Probably sufficient for a category 3 or 4 marker (depending if they judge the facility was granted or not).
Your other problem is that the CIFAS marker doesn’t have to be immediate, Barclays may only add one after they complete any investigations which could be months.====0 -

While I can see why the OP is unhappy, it’s worth remembering that the banks aren’t utilities companies, or an arm of the state, they are companies incorporated to make a profit, and can generally bar you as easily as can the local pub.
They make a tiny profit from each customer yet face massive fines if they miss something that they could have spotted so it makes sense for them to be very cautious.0 -
Well, one major banking group, still being 62.4% owned by the state after eleven years, could obviously be argued to be an arm of it....Kentish_Dave wrote: »it’s worth remembering that the banks aren’t [...] an arm of the state
(And yes, I know it's operated as an arms-length commercial entity, etc)0
