Dogs/cat fouling an area

We have just had an area gravelled at the side of our house which was previously some large overgrown shrubs and scruffy grass.

It is very attractive to dogs as their toilet now.

The first day after the gravel arrived - 1 poo, second day - 3 poos, third day 2 poos and its only 11. a.m.

If only the owners would pick it up it would not be a problem.

Does anyone have any idea what I could put down to deter this.

I am thinking of something strong smelling but which will not harm them ?

All suggestions would be welcome.

Could you put a very small fence, wall or some kind of blocks/planters close together around the edge? It's easy for a dog owner to pretend not to notice a dog pooing on a random verge but if it's somewhere clearly marked as belonging to a house, it would take somebody pretty obnoxious just to leave it, or to let their dog walk there in the first place.

Are you sure it is dogs? If so, are you in an area where dogs are often walked off the lead - if owners are present then that is disgusting.

If its cats (or foxes) then I had success moving on something that was regularly using my flagged driveway as a loo.
At the time there was a cat-repellent product sold by Wilkinsons (Wilko) and it had quite a strong scent of garlic when first sprayed which completely fine as it was outside - a quick spray every few days and my problem disappeared. I dont know for sure if it was the product or coincidence.

However I dont think Wilko do the 'garlic' product any more but I am sure you can google and see if its available online.

Could be foxes?

I would put up a CCTV sign and see what happens.

Failing that, actually get CCTV. Also report to your local council they will likely look into it, put sign-up nearby etc. ours sprays dog wardens on patrol signs and no fouling on the pavement in yellow paint which fades over a few weeks.

Thank you for all your comments etc. The land is ours but alongside a small road where dog walkers pass a lot. Will see what I can find online.

I wonder if a fake £6 cctv camera mounted in an obvious place would help?

If it's happening that frequently, have you got the time to sit & watch?

If not, I'd go for the fence/border idea.

My father used to swear by pickled onion vinegar just poured from the jar. Very MSE I would probably make up a solution of garlic water in a spray bottle. A quick spray every day should do the trick until they get the idea.
