Electric bill crazy high!!

Hello

I lived in a small 1 bed flat for 2 years and recently moved. I've received a final bill from legalized fraud Inc aka British gas. This final bill is for 1 month April as I moved in may.

They have 2 meter readings which I have them and have worked out I owe £140 for one month!! Since both meter readings are correct the meter must be faulty clocking up units too fast

This is way too high for a single month for a tiny flat. It had total 9 light bulbs a TV, desktop PC and that's it!! Central Heating/hot water was gas.

It's also not consistent with our usage over the 2 years, the total usage excluding April was £1850 that's an average of £77 a month. Funny then how it suddenly almost doubled!! Can electrical faults in the buildings wiring cause usage to jump?

Funny thing is I knew they would send a massive final bill to punish us for going elsewhere.

Final note this is NOT a catch up bill be were fully up to date this.

Called them up and they refused to look into it or even check the meter. They can't even say why it just doubled. Our habits did not change for this month we did nothing different yet are Bieng charged almost twice!

Now you've had a good rant, what about some actual information.

If your bills were fully up to date with actual readings then you should easily be able to work out what you final bill should be from the meter readings that your new supplier and BG are using from the change over date.

I assume that you sent the meter reading on the changeover day to your new supplier and the start reading that they are using is roughly the same as the one you gave them and identical to the one that BG are using for your final bill. If not then investigate why

Your bills should reflect actual meter readings, not guesses or estimates.

    Get a grip!
Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid

  • I'll explain it again

    1. I gave them 2 meter readings

    2. The bill from these readings is 140

    3. This is almost double what we paid monthly over 2 years (ie it's inconsistent)

    4. We didn't do anything different or unusual to account for this increase during this last month.

Therefore it would be likely there is a fault in the meter or some kind of electrical fault causing a high load on the meter. Yes?

Robbing b@stards Inc don't seem to want to investigate.

Jimmy - as others have said lets have some meter readings please - I hope these are ACTUAL readings as taken by you every month.

From what you say you go back two years - I presume the first year was on a fix. What happened at the end of year 1 after you got your email - if you did nothing then the 2nd year will have been on a standard (ie expensive) tariff. Give us the rates and standing charge detail please.

........[/QUOTE] but was there a big debit carried forward ?

Please forget "£'s - what is important is meter readings .

Forget how big the bill is, what was the consumption, month on month? When you supplied the meter readings, had they gone up by double the amount you would have expected compared to previous months?

Have they added early exit fees because you'd signed up for a fixed term and left early? A £30 exit penalty per fuel would account for the higher bill amount, wouldn't it?

    Hi,

do you mean you were up to date with payments, though maybe been paying previous estimate bills?

or I've been paying DD's and I assumed this covered the costs ?

  • British Gas frequently get the Eco 7 readings wrong and have the day /night reads reversed which can lead to a much smaller monthly bill.
When someone switches they can look deeper into the readings , realise they have messed up , and issue a catch up bill.
My company who I work for , MDS , read meters for BG and our data loggers are set rate 1 night, rate 2 day which most times is incorrect and it is the day rate which is rate 1 on most digital meters..
This is a strong possibility with BG Eco 7 digital ( non smart ) Eco 7 meters

Houbara - there is nothing in the OP to suggest this is an E& meter.
