From the OP's first post "This is way too high for a single month for a tiny flat. It had total 9 light bulbs a TV, desktop PC and that's it!! Central Heating/hot water was gas. "
Elec + Gas = 2 metersNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
OP, unless you post the meter readings, the no-one can help you. You insist that this is not a catch up bill, but all the (minimal) evidence presented leads me to the conclusion that it is. Meter tests are expensive: if found to be accurate then you would be charged the full cost of the test meter. There is no evidence to support a faulty meter. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Living in a one bed flat myself, the figures do not add up. Three years ago, I moved off prepay energy and I was paying around £70 pm for gas and elec. At the time, I had an electric shower, cooker, along with fridge/freezer, disherwasher and normal energy saving light bulbs.
Seems to me that you came off a tariff and was moved onto the expensive variable tariff. You do not state that you gave regular readings, so one has to assume that you did not. Estimated bills on BG's variable tariff only lead to final bills like this.
Edit
Even if faulty wiring could produce inflated use, and I have no idea if it can or cannot, this is not an issue for BG.0 -
You say that as if these companies are honest. Whereas I have photographs of readings that have gone missing from my account and photos of readings that have been changed by NPower to suit ludicrous bills that were physically impossible to be right unless I was growing cannabis or similar. They do say there are none so blind though.
I believe that companies, while out to make a profit, do not seek to "punish" those who chose to move away from using their services. They will try to recover all costs and no doubt make mistakes from time to time. There may even be unscrupulous policies, many have been highlighted over the years, but sites such as this can bring them to the public arena and hopefully have them stopped.
I hope you got your issue resolved to your satisfaction.Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid0 -
Sadly, the OP is his worst enemy. Making wild, emotive and unsubstantiated claims means he will dismissed as a crank, even in the unlikely event that there is some merit in his case. Detailed FACTS are required, not emotional rants.0
