A lot more motorway police patrols would help (IMO)
Why did you stop me officer ?
Well we saw you using your brake's, there was no traffic in front of you or in fact anywhere remotely nearby, except us who were well over 200 yds behind. Can you tell me why you were braking ?
Well ermm, ermm, did I ?
Why did you stop me officer ?
We were some distance behind and saw you enter & barge your way straight to the very outside lane where you then had to brake before hitting the vehicle in front., Can you tell me why ?

Same for chronic lane hogger's.
Please follow us to the next service area / exit where you can park your car for collection as your licence will be revoked by then.
You can though elect to go through the advanced dimwit driving test & if successful will be allowed back onto the roads but with the big red D badge on the rear.0 -

Car drivers are let off their lack of ability all too easily. A train driver only has two attempts at making the grade at the psychometric testing stage of their job application, and even if they pass a couple of mistakes when out driving can cost them their job.
Whereas when it comes to car driving, people can make mistakes over and over again, and still be allowed behind the wheel.
I think there should be changes to the learning process. Something like maximum of two tests per year. Bigger bans for causing accidents or using the phone/drink/drug driving.0 -
There are about 45 million licence holders in the UK. A 10-year assessment would affect 4.5 million people, which is about three times the number of tests carried out under the current system.
So any assessments would need a massive increase in testing capacity, and a demand for traing which possibly couldn't be met.
I was responding to the idea of testing every 3-4 years at a minimum and saying that I think that's far too often and impractical whereas every 10 years may be more feasible.
It's doesn't have to be a practical driving test. Something along the lines of the theory test that is carried out by new drivers.
That way any changes in legislation, road signs, changes to the Highway code etc can be taught.
An hour or two in a classroom shouldn't be that difficult to arrange even for a high number of people.
With the ever increasing traffic on our roads, I think that ensuring that drivers are kept updated with any changes can only be a good thing.0 -

The answer to all of the 3 scenarios above is front mounted rocket launchers fitted to all cars that are remotely controlled by the Police, any infringement is dealt with via a stinger missile.'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.

In my area of the UK there are many of the elderly community and many of them are poor drivers who drive in the middle of the road.
They generally do not respond to honking.
I frequently have to retract my mirrors.
My mirrors have been hit by them.0
