What is "my zip file"? Quite often applications are packaged in a ZIP file for download. You then open the ZIP file and extract the contents. Once extracted, then you run the application.0
-
open the folder you extracted the zip file to next
TestDisk doesn't need to be installed, you only need to
- run testdisk_win.exe or photorec_win.exe0 -
You could try Disk Drill as a possible alternative free recovery.0

Any USB memory is prone to corruption, always have a few copies - easy to say with hindsight but there you have it0

I have been following this thread with keen interest as other contributors on this site and elsewhere whose experiences with a corrupted micro SD card mirrors my problem . I had no idea corrupting a SD card was so common and likely to happen otherwise I would have backed it up. It is obvious now the reasons why this should have been done. It is easy to be wise after the event. Following contributors helpful suggestions i have to decided to add the results on this post as a one off. The Test Disk mentioned in posts 7 and 8 took an eternity to run and I could only download the evaluation version, that identified the lost items but then wanted me to purchase a license to recover. I could not find and download for the free programme that was suggested. As far as Disk Drill was concerned when trying to download it kept coming up with the message another programme being downloaded so it could not progress. This was not true no other programme was being download. So I was unable to progress any further on this front. The Recuva downloaded just said the file needed reformatting, which was pointless as any reformatting would mean I would lose all of my data.I did also download EaseUS but this again was an evaluation with no free recovery option. Again you needed to purchase a license to continue to this level Either on each of these download I have misread all of the instructions completely, as none that I can see will allow me free recovery or will work without reformatting the disk, which is no good for my recovery. Any comments or suggestions about the above will welcomed with open arms including anything else I could try. Otherwise I just will have to accept I cannot recover my data, mainly music from my my corrupt micro SD card. I will to accept I have come to the end of the road in my attempt to retrieve my music , I will then have then learnt my lesson the hard way.0

There is no evaluation version of TestDisk.....so start again. So you probably downloaded something completely different.
Seems that you are finding it difficult to follow the simple instructions.0 -
i have followed the instructions but when trying ti download photo recovery or card or testdisk recovery from the link provided it just does not download. I have also tried going into the cgsecurity org but with he same result. Has anyone tried recently to download these with any success,If so what have you done differently or is it something on my PC stopping me downloading these.. Like Chris1447 ( post 16) I only can download an evaluation version. I do appreciate all the help and suggestions but to do they do seem to work for me. I never realised it would be difficult to recover data from a corrupt SD card. I do intend to write anymore post on this subject as it appears to me it getting up some peoples noses!! Thank you.0

Since I started the original post 10 days ago there have been some very helpful responses and it is appreciated that people take their time and use their expertise to try and solve problems. However I have still been unable to get free recovery of my data on corrupted SD card. I have tried all the suggestions and many of them get as far and identifying the the items then demand money to recover them I can add Recoverit to this list as exactly the same happened there downloaded fine then wanted me to purchase a license to recovery.Post 19 would seem to have been the solution but when I go into the cgsecurity main site link above and try to click on the recovery latest stable version 7.1 nothing happens, Also the other links highlighted for the testdisk and photorec above; when clicking into these it comes up with the message an error occurred whilst downloading. At no stage have i been able to access the GUI which seems the key. I have come to the conclusion either my PC or me is faulty. It just appears the downloads draws you in then when it comes to the actual recovery they want money. The time has come for me to buy another SD card and start again making sure this time I back everything up which I will do t the weekend in case someone comes up with another solution which I will willing try.Hopefully when I do this my new SD card will not get corrupted. Again many thanks to everyone who tried to help me.0

Perhaps better to start again, as there appears to be quite a few confused posters on this thread, including some of those who are giving advice.
First of all, unless you are seeing the GUI below, you have taken the wrong path;
How you did that I don't know, but my best suggestion would be to begin to use a Browser that block Ads by default.
The chances are you are clicking on some Google(or similar) placed Advertisement, instead of the link to which you have been directed.
To help the people who are finding it difficult to find one of the links on the download page, I will put up a couple of direct links, for a few days.
If and when the software has worked for you, perhaps you can go back to the Homepage; https://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/Main_Page and donate a few Euros or whatever you think it was worth to you.
The software is free and there is no evaluation version.

TestDisk & PhotoRec 7.2-WIP
TestDisk & PhotoRec 7.2-WIP 64-bit
Click to download and choose to save the file. Once downloaded, right click on the downloaded file and choose to Extract the content.
Go into the extracted folder and look for the qphotorec_win application. When you find it, right click on it and choose Run As Administrator.
Do not try to save the recovered files to the same medium. Choose to save them to another drive, as you do not want to overwrite anything on the Source disk.0
