Changing car for a cheaper one
I have a car that Auto Trader tells me is worth £13k if I sell it privately and £11,800 if I trade it in.
It's only a two door coupe and not very practical for me (although a popular model generally) so I want to change it for something more mundane but I don't want to spend any more money.
I don't want to sell it privately for various reasons, not the least being that I'm a woman and I'm not comfortable with people coming to my home and probably wanting to test drive it.
Will a garage take a car on a trade-in without me buying a more expensive one?

They might buy it from you, but what price they'll offer is another matter.
Some of the big dealer groups (eg Evans Halshaw) even advertise their buying "service" on TV.0 -
I believe there are some car buying comparrison sites.
Start with an honest description to WBAC0 -
You’re more likely to make that work in terms of best deal if you take it to the marque garage/dealer not another marque or an independent used dealer like Paul’s Motors, unless it’s older.
But most garages will buy a car off you, it will just depend on how much they want it and how much profit they see in it.
You may end up being offered less than ‘trade in’ because the dealer can make profit on both the sale of new and the sell on of your trade in - with no purchase one of their revenue strands has gone.0 -
We Buy Any Car said £11,000.
I'm staring to think I should keep it.

Its only fair that people want to test drive a car that you want £11,000 for, and no way should anyone spend that amount of money without buying from the keepers registered address.
Have you got any one who can be with you when/if the they want to test drive it? Friends, family, hire henchman?
You may struggle unless it is cheap at that level for a private sale anyway, so try webuyanycarforundertradevalue if you must, or your trusted mechanic may know someone who trades cars, they may be interested if its in good enough condition/mileage etc.0 -
I think you'll be lucky to get your price, and buy a cheaper car from the same place.
They're in business to make money.
All you can do is ask around as already said.0 -

WBAC exist because they often offer more than trade, why would people bother otherwise ?0 -
We were told £4K by WBAC, on arrival (well an hour later) it was 2.7K'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.
I have opinions, you have opinions. All of our opinions are valid whether they are based on fact or feeling. Respect other peoples opinions, stop forcing your opinions on other people and the world will be a happier place.0 -
