Esso pipeline

Just got a whole lot of documents from the solicitor... the significant information seems to be a consultation about Esso pipeline being built nearby to supply aviation fuel from Southampton to Heathrow. What are the potential implications of this? How close would it need to be to be something to worry about?
ETA: it is proposed to run along (underneath?) the road that the house we're buying is at.

A quick google and lots comes up about the proposal....the little I read seemed to indicate it was a replacement of an existing pipe originally laid in 1972.
Read up on it and make your decision, but it seems as if its nothing new as suchin S 38 T 2 F 50

You'd be surprised how often you cross fuel pipelines, and simply don't know about them. The only clue is a marker in a verge - because they're underground...
Obviously, if they leak, things get messy. The oil companies don't like them leaking. They really don't like the waste of fuel, and they DEFINITELY don't like the environment agency penalties that would follow... So they don't let them leak.0 -
Unless it's directly under (or very close to) your property, of no relevance at all. They consult more widely because of planning implications for other things eg they don't like sports stadia etc being too close to pipelines.0

Thank you all for the reassurance - it sounded a little scary at first and I wasn't sure whether it had any bad impacts. Sounds like it doesn't.0 -
I just figured out how to work the interactive map on the project website... the final route is through the street in front on the house we are buying. Does that change things?0

The companies who operate these pipelines will flyover them daily. If they spot anyone working there they will get a visit.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -

As in down the middle of the road? Only in the sense that you'll have disruption while they're laying it.0 -

Don't bother with that now too expensive, pipeline will have intelligent pigs run thru at intervals, and static thickness monitoring equipment built onto the line at varying intervals.Official MR B fan club, dont go............................0
