Fibre / No Fibre

We have had BT Fibre for nearly two years but every time I try to switch provider the response is that it is not available at our address?
Is this because the exchange equipment has to be 'owned' by the provider and it is not an investment the new one wants to make, or because the comparison tool is not sophisticated enough, or something else?
It is very frustrating as we are trapped into a high monthly cost with no chance to change!

What type of fibre do you have? Is it FTTP (where you have a box mounted on your wall and then connect to your BT Hub?
If it is FTTP, then there are a limited number of providers available as all the cheap ISPs refuse to buy it. A partial list of providers can be found at https://www.openreach.com/fibre-broadband/fttp-providers
If it isn't (it's FTTC provided over copper phone line) then which ISPs have you tried? If you can get BT then Plusnet would also supply among many others.0 -

The question you have been asked about your current product and whether it is fibre to the premises (FTTP) or fibre to the cabinet (FTTC) is the crucial one.
