The flight I was looking at was with allegiant airways from reno to las vegas. The flight was about £55 each but then there was $20 each for hand luggage and $25 checked luggage with 1boarding the same flights were 100 euros between us including luggage, so quite a significant saving.

Allegiant are a low cost airline (like Ryanair or easyJet over here). As you've found out they charge for both carry on and checked in baggage.

I find it very hard to believe that an unknown online agent could undercut them on this. I think what is far more likely is that the 1Boarding website has incorrect information regarding luggage allowance included with the Allegiant fare when in fact it isn't. The numbers you quote seem very close to the fact they are quoting you for the 2 airfares only.

thanks to everyone for your time and input. will avoid like the plague! Bloody long drive between reno and vegas though!

There are some great little American towns between Reno & Vegas, enjoy the quiet.

Frankly, I wouldn't book any flight with that airline. It has a very interesting reputation, a noted aversion to helping people when things go wrong and at times, long delays. The flight from Reno appears to be at 8.50pm each night, so the last flight of the day for the plane. Most days booking directly on their website the fare is $51, so even at today's poor exchange rate, a lot less than £55 if you decide to go ahead and book.

If you want a decent airline on that route look at Southwest Airlines, a dozen flights a day, evening flights are around $88 but you get free checked and hand baggage and an airline that will look after you. Free coffee or cold drinks and pretzels too

I would second the recommendation for Southwest. One of the best airlines in the US. As Alan says, they include baggage in their fares, so although they often won’t come up the cheapest headline rate, they usually are the best overall.

I laugh with the often made comparisons between Southwest and Ryanair. Other than a large fleet of 737s, they couldn’t be more different!
