Getting a cheaper package

Hi,
I need some advice on my virgin media package. We don't use the TV. We're very high broadband users. Been told last month we used 380gb (sorry I don't know gb/mb) whereas a family out size would be expected to use less than 100.
Was already unhappy my package was 49.50 and now they've put it up to 58.50. I've phoned for a cheaper deal. My package is currently £29 for new customers. They offered me £46 but when he put me through she said no that's wrong and upped it to £52. Advised broadband only would be £42. Same broadband package on website is £29.
There's no other providers that can give me anywhere near the speed in my area so feel a bit stuck and we massively rely on internet. Do I take the hit? I asked about cancelling when she said about speeds of other companies (which I've checked out and is true) and just told me 30 days notice.
So do I ring and cancel and hope they try and give me a better offer? Do I take an offer today or do I totally cancel and wait for them to call with an offer? Will they call? I can't be left without internet so feel like I have no choice but to accept a stupidly expensive package.

I presume that if you're burning through 380Gb a month you do a lot of streaming, Netflix and the like? How fast is your internet, what Virgin package are you on?0
-
Yeah it's all streaming. We don't watch TV but me and my daughter spend our evenings streaming everything. She plays games also like Sims but I doubt that uses a lot of internet. We're on the 100mb internet and the current package is called MixTV. I've done broadband speed checker and it does hit 100mb every time as well.Starting Debt (May 2019) - [STRIKE]£19116[/STRIKE] Current (Nov 19) £12237

Hi,
I had the exact same problem, but you need to be bold.
I was offered the same as you, but had a look at different providers and without TV but decent broadband (Money Supermarket) you can get it for under 30 for 66mb. This is so I had a comparison to talk about and I also have Netflix, Now and Amazon so not bothered about TV.
So asked to be put through to leaving team, I always do this, remember even with them you don't have to cancel just ask them to tell you how you cancel and that you will call back, you could pay for a few more months until a new deal is out with another company.
So on being put through to the new person. Told them that I was calling because of cost (there is a price increase in Sept and the end of my deal). They offered me the same package (which looks like the same as yours) for £32 straight away and 35.50 in Sept. Apparently they are getting lots of calls because of the price hike.
Call again and go through to the leaving team, what's the worst that can happen.
Good luck.0 -

That would be a max of 80 meg on BT Openreach unless FTTP has been installed.
80 meg will depend upon distance from cabinet and quality of the phone line .0 -

You need the top 2 lines for VDSL to give you an idea of what fibre speeds you can get. If it's towards the top end I doubt you'd notice the difference between this and your 100Mbps from Virgin in real life.0 -
Hi. You'll never touch Virgin for speed using other suppliers. Ask to speak to the customer retention team - they have more authority to do deals to keep customers. Advise them politely you think you're paying too much for TV you don't need, and have seen broadband/phone only deals elsewhere that are better. See if they'd be able to reduce pricing to keep you - 9 times out of 10 they will.0

Thats not exactly true .
All depends upon what services are available to an address .
BT offer me up to 300 meg may rise to 1000 next year .
Hyperoptic is another high speed supplier .
VM though are still the cheapest .0 -
I have the TV/phine6/broadband 100mb bundle and have haggled £21.50 off my deal (going through several stage of haggling!) having just gone out of contract. Just keep polite and never forceful. Make sure you have all the facts about better deals on offer and that at the current price, you don't think it offers you good value for money. I was happily surprised!0
