Poor headroom

Does anyone else find that a lot of cars have poor headroom? I am 6'4 which is tall but not freakishly tall. We are talking a few inches above average height. I drive a Fiesta and fit in my car quite comfortably. In fact, even when the chair is not all the day down, I easily can more than a fist-worth of room above my head.

I am on the look for a new car and initially started looking at SUVs. I sat in a Kia Sorento (which had a sunroof) and my head was touching the ceiling even with the seat fully down. I also test drove a Ford Kuga and the head room was LESS than what I had in my Fiesta. I saw an online review for a BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe and the reviewer stated "people over 6' would be fine". I am over 6' and with the seat all the way down my hair was just about rubbing against the ceiling. Thing is,the seating position then is just so poor you can hardly see beyond the bonnet.

Anyone else notice or struggle with this?.

I wouldn't bother with the BMW Gran Coupe unless you only want to carry a picnic basket and a set of golf clubs. The way the roofline goes, there isn't a great deal of space in the back or in the boot...

I need a car that will take 6 footers back & front, it certainly limits your choice considerably. It's surprising which ones are OK which aren't. As you say the Fiesta is fine in the front, but I can't even get in a Jaguar F-Pace, let alone get comfortable.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

ive just bought the Jag F-Pace and im 5'11 with plenty of head room. Even with the drivers seat back for a comfortable driving position, when I get into the back seat, there is still about 4 inches of space between the back of the drivers seat and my knees.
I had a Hyundai Tucson and the headroom in it wasn't great, I could feel the top of my head skimming the sunroof liner, and couldn't get in with a fancy hairdo or it would be flattened. and as you suggested, lowering the drivers seat down compromised the view over the bonnet

Asking somebody what height they are, and what car they fit in only gives a general idea. Their leg to body length ratio might be quite a lot different. You'd need to know their height from the seat when sitting.

Does anyone own or know if a 3 series GT is a decent car for tall people?

What Jack said... you have to try the cars until you find one that works for you. May also depend on whether you prefer to sit fairly upright to drive or to lay back and listen to rap. At 5'10" I've never had significant problems (MGB with roof up was tight) but my 6'2" father has been happy with surprisingly small vehicles - like a Bedfrord/Suzuki Rascal van.
I need to think of something new here...

The problem you will find with most SUVs is because they ride quite high anyway there needs to be some sort of compromise somewhere or they would resemble a transit van. Typically anything with a sporty looking roof line is going to be a problem for you and unfortunately thats going to be a majority of modern SUVs.
