Brand New Customers Only

Here's one of those 'ask a stupid question' questions....
I live in a shared house where I don't have the same surname as the other occupant. When our 'deal' is up for broadband, the price is going to be hiked by an extra £20/month. What's to stop us simply cancelling the contract in the current account holders name and starting a new account as a brand new customer in the other house occupants name in order to get another discount? Have already threatened with leaving and the 'best [they] can do' is saving only around 60% of what a brand new customer would get. It's all a rip off. Can we play the company at their own game?

1. You will lose the current telephone number.
2. There will be a gap in services between the completion of the current contract and the start of the new contract. Gap could be 14 days or more as a new order cannot be placed until the current contract notice period ends. Might be as short as 3 days but you have no way of knowing.0 -

Also there's the possibility of termination/reconnect fees for the line itself.
