Caution - don't explore quotes too heavily

  • Going off on a slight tangent here: getting quotes with, shall we say, manipulated information is not, I suspect, actual fraud. It would only become fraud if the application went ahead with fraudulent data (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong). Accordingly, there should be no record on Cifas, CUE or any other industry database. So what database, if any, is holding information about manipulated quotes? How is the database shared in the industry, if indeed it is shared?

Also, if there is any sanction placed on people who indulge in 'quote modelling', then it would be a piece of cake to maliciously implicate someone in the practice. I know the names, addresses and even dates of birth of loads of people, including many of my neighbours. What safeguards are there (clue: probably none) to prevent this sort of thing happening?
