Wow sounds like you have a lot on yor plate.

Just looking at this? Why not put that money into a savings account, as by the time christmas comes around you will have earned yourself, not these stores, interest.

Sorry if the thoughts are a bit randome but here goes

    1) Ref your previous employer, have you investigated whether you were constructively dismissed. All carers have the right to ask for part time working with children under 5 I think it is at the moment. So he had not right to sack you for not doing your previous hours. Please try talking to the CAB about this. You may be due some compensation.

    2) If you are unemployed, why are you not claiming benefits? I know it is not a lot but every little helps.

    3) Ref food bill. Appreciate that it if for 8 but you then have £120 for the babies nappies etc. So this is still alot on just food. With both of you not working, can you fit in some time to batch cook food (saves on the electric if you cook two things at the same time and freeze one), cooking from scratch. Also if you shop online, there are often discount codes on this forum for you to get extra points and or free delivery. Would save you time and petrol too!

    4) Have you joined all of the baby clubs? Ie bounty, tesco, pampers etc. They all offer vouchers and every little helps.

    5) Whilst at home (and I know time is at a premium), could you between you do online surveys, click throughs etc to get a bit of extra money?

    6) Ref sky. C beebies and Cbbc are available free on Freeview. So could you ditch the sky? I believe you can use your satellite box to get the free to air channels, so no need to buy a freeview box even. And the best thing about no more disney or nickolodeon is no toy adverts!!!

    7) Assuming you are not aiming to have more children, then could you start selling on their old clothes on ebay to free up some cash?

    8) Is it possible for either of you to get even part time bar work to tide you over until you get another job in your field?

hope this is food for thought

Also just thought, batch cooking pureed foods and freezing would save you a fortune in baby food jars etc. And you know what you have put in it too!

And to answer your actual question, then yes joining the police force you do have to disclose your financial position, so I would think that bankruptcy is a no no.

As far as the creditors are concerned, try to get your credit file to check where they stand. If you go to www.quidco.com, you can get a free months trial with experien (you just have to remember to cancel the direct debit as soon as the credit report comes through). Then you will know who your creditors are and what the situation is, ie whether they have issued default notices etc.

    good luck

    Hi

Have you tried to claim some benefits for you this seems a really low income for that many people. It also sounds like you were unlawfully dismissed have you contacted ACAS http://www.acas.org.uk/ they will tell you if you have a case.

You need to really cut back on areas where you don't want to eg the window cleaner and the sky, freeview will give you the CBBies so you don't need to pay for anything extra. I'm also sure with a bit of meal planning you can get your food bill down, cooking from scratch doesn't take that long and its far healthier for your children.

I do apprieciate that with 6 children its very demanding on time and energy so I'm not going to suggest you cut out the twins child minding, have you spoken to the health visitor about any free sessions that you might be entitled to given your circumstances.

I've just noticed that you spend £200 pm saving for christmas, I can't believe anyone needs to spend £2400 on christmas your youngest 5 really have no comprehension of money and you can easily buy their presents for £25 int total from car boots sales. I'm not suggesting anything myself or my sister hasn't done, I am flabbergasted by the things my sister has found at carboots in perfect condition for her boys. Have you registered on www.freecycle.org people offer things they no longer need and give them away for free I've clothes for my nephews this way. Also don't forget to ebay your kids clothes as they grow out of them.

    Good luck
  • I'm sorry, this isn't really a helpful post as to be honest, I can't see much of a way out for you.

I'm just amazed at how many children you have at 21 years of age. Having twins and then, what, 10 months later having triplets  .

I do think though that you should be able to claim for yourself if you were sacked (unfairly too, it sounds like) have you looked into this.

I would get rid of the window cleaner, the Sky and the house phone to be honest - you don't really need them and at the mo, you can't afford them.

I hope you take full advantage of charity shops to clothe the little ones at least. There are some fabulous baby clothes, absolutely as new...toys as well.
I let my mind wander and it never came back!
  • Ooh sorry. I'm a slow typist and just seen I've crossed posts with others giving much the same input.......ignore me......I'll get me coat :D

could you not do your shopping on line and save the nursery fees? even if you paid a fiver a time four times a month it's still a huge saving on the nursery.

also in some areas if you have 3 under a certain age you get help with childcare/nursery places so with five there may be some help available for you - check with local council.

I have checked benefits 3 times now and they say its correct. I check police, wont take anyone with bad debt with ccjs or bankrupt applicants untill 2 years after the bankrupty is finished.

Afraid it's three years after discharge, so could be up to four years from when you stand in the court and declare as bankrupt.

Can I apply if I have been declared bankrupt? Applicants who have been registered as bankrupt and their bankruptcy debts have been discharged will only be considered after 3 years from discharge of the debt.
