Smoker beneath flat making like bad

I live in a good neighbourhood in a block of flats.
I have a mental health condition that is worsened greatly by drugs such as weed. I also have up smoking 2 years ago.
It's summer and I have a one small window.
The person below me smokes an INANE amount. I've never in my life known anyone to smoke weed literally all the time, how they aren't dead yet is a mystery to me. It hollows into my flat. I avoid opening my window as the smoking starts at around 7.30 every morning.
It sweltering in my flat. I've shouted multiple times and they have heard me saying I need air.
These type of people won't go outside to smoke even at the detriment of other people, they are addicts whether they like to class themselves as that or not. They smoke so much they probably wouldn't get high enough to sustain a high smoking outside.
It triggers my conditions, all the tobacco is bad for health and the stress is causing much worsened tinnitus.
I hold such contempt for people that font think of other people.
Plan of action?

Move? Your flat, with one window, (?) sounds appalling.
That answer is not what you want to hear, but going through all the other options will probably bring you back to it.
Controlling what other people do in their own homes is extremely difficult and, ultimately, soul destroying.
See you at the other end of the thread.0 -
Commiserations, that sounds unpleasant. Obtain a small portable air conditioning unit to run during the day with window closed. Open the window overnight when he’s not smoking.0

Yep.
My neighbours smoke all sorts in their garden. Nothing I can do about it. So I try to not let it worry me. There's nothing you can do about it. Shouting certainly won't help.As of 24/11/2020

yeah, your only option is to move. If you think that's terribly unfair, try to remember that when you smoked you probably irritated others.
All's fair in love and war. Move on... literally.0 -
get a top notch air purifier. Problem solved.0

Moving isn't an option for me. I moved once already to a whole new area because a neighbour was smoking weed constantly, now it's happening again.
People should be more respectful of others spaces. It is drug fumes after all, whether people think it's "just a bit of weed" is meaningless, since any drug can cause severe reactions. There is a side door right next to them that they could easily smoke out of.0 -
Your neighbour probably complains to friends & collegues about the person who lives above disturbing him with all the shouting that goes on & wonders why you don't show more consideration for the neighbours!
They're not making a noise, just having a peaceful smoke in the comfort of their own home. This must seem rather a luxury to them as there are very few places a smoker can have a quiet puff these days.
As an ex smoker you should be understanding of how addictive smoking can be, but they do say ex smokers are the worse for complaining.
Perhaps try to get moved to a ground floor flat to avoid any issues with a neighbour living below you.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
I'm not moving AGAIN because of drug fiends.
If anyone had an issue when I smoked I would always go outside, which is a more than reasonable thing to request. People need to respect others spaces. It's clear that his fumes rose into my flat, they must know that0 -
I'm sort but this is twisted!
The weed fumes which trigger dissociative episodes is a billion times worse than a loud complaint every weed or so.
How can you not see that everyone has a right to clean air. It isn't a "relaxing smoke" for me, and it's CONSTANT. Imagine if someone was forcing smoke into your bedroom 24/7 there is no way you even dream of making this statement.
It isn't fair to people to have them breathe not only carcinogenic fumes, but also drugs, which havent been fully dispersed into the air and most definitely active in the mind at the quantities that they come in.
It's going to stop one way or another0 -

You previously smoked weed. Were you always miles from the nearest person, lest they be exposed to your 'drug fumes'?
The reality is that somebody is doing something obnoxious that affects you. That's unfortunate, but nothing we've not all done (irritating someone else, not necessarily with drug use!) including yourself. It's also something we all have to learn to live with, because you can't control others' actions all that much and most of us have no choice but to live in fairly close proximity to lots of different people.
With respect, passive smoking of weed smoke cannot 'trigger' anything that regular smoke wouldn't also. The amount of drugs you can consume from passive smoking in negligible (it's why drug tests wouldn't fail somebody for passive smoking). So, if the smoke is causing you problems, it's psychological. If you're receiving counselling/therapy for your mental health problem this would be a good thing to discuss with a therapist - you need a coping mechanism so that your response to the smoke isn't to make yourself ill.
I'm not trying to blame you, but the reality is that the solution is going to have to come from you. As far as I can see it, your options are:
- move to more appropriate housing, preferably a setup where the environment is more in your control
- technical solution such as an air filter in your home
- find a way to cope with the situation as it is
Not claiming it's easy or fair, it just is what it is.0
