I don't think it's going to go off either.

It's clearly faulty, but spark are back to i may have to pay almost £100 to get an engineer out. It's a farce:mad:

Advised again to call out engineer at my own cost first, but of course that's illegal

They just cut me off on their live chat after advising me to top up the meter. Senior advisor Cliona, not overly helpful.

Just googled error codes, as there's a very faint 1 at start of screen. Apparently this is a major fault, can anyone shed some light on this (no pun intended)

Hopefully it will be rectified for you. I am surprised there is a call out charge however as its not as though you "own" the meter. I don't know if energy companies own or lease them though either!

From their point of view I can see it too, in that it is "alive" so they don't *need* to visit. The fact that you may use more than you can/are billed for, well...

Mind you, they are aware of the facts and its current erm 'status' so I guess its up to them what they do next. :)

I think this about covers it however I'd not honestly rely on all the display working anyway:
Error 1 or E1 : Your meter has developed an internal fault

I think its one flash per kW or something like that, it should be flashing occasionally. By the sounds of it no, its not doing that and it may of been fried I guess as likely indicated way back in this topic....

It's usually 1000 flashes per kWhr.
  • I'm keeping an eye on the meter. I'm not comfortable with something faulty and electrical being in my house. It's quite warm to the touch under the display, is that normal or something else for me to keep an eye on?

Managed to speak with someone from different electric company, been advised to monitor it. Bit warm fine, anything above that is an issue.

I'd not expect it to be stone-cold , not in this weather anyway as electronics do get a tad warm, however it should not be hot by any margin!

The display (if I recall correctly) is lit with a led or two, not a conventional 12v/5v bulb so that is not the heat source as such.

To be frank with you, if you think its too warm ( the meter, not the weather ;) ) then I'd say to contact the supplier and say you're worried about it especially with it being a tad erm 'unwell currently too.
  • Thanks all for your responses.

The meter is warm, but not too hot. A close eye is being kept on it anyway. We have further thunderstorms forecast in coming days, so this may be a further issue.

Apparently, spark are going to get back to me tomorrow, so we may yet get some news.

Lets hope not (in that it does not cause it to go more 'funny') , mind you on a positive note a bit of a downpour next week with the apparently hot weather we are due is not a bad thing I suppose. Not fan of heat myself but each to their own. :)

    Back to the main concern:

:) Hopefully they will. I would say if (lets hope not) they do not contact you then I'd suggest re-contacting them again the following morning if possible.
