Having logged onto the router it was not coming up as a wireless router but just netgear firewall router.
    Thanks

If you are saying that you go to www.routerlogin.com
and intermittently there is no wireless settings option on the left, then that sounds like a faulty router to me (i.e. the wireless aspect isn't recognized, loose connection inside, and it is defaulting to a non-wireless dg834 router mode).

If so, either return it to the shop, or call netgear to arrange a swapout, or (doing this bit may invalidate your warranty, remove the 4 rubber feet, unscrew the cover, and check all the connections inside)

    Does this work?

Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

Thanks for all your help. I dont have a video sender that might be interferring with it and as far as I know my neighbours dont.

The wireless settings is dissappearing intermittently ie when the wireless icon is not lighting green. I have spoken to netgear and they are going to replace it for me so hopefully it is a faulty router and a new one will clear the problem. I am leaving it switched on 24/7 at the moment the wireless isnt working but at least I can go online through ethernet cable and dont want to take a chance switching it off incase when I switch it back on wireless is there and cant access internet.

    Thanks again
