Hi All
I have been having some problems with drop outs and connections in the last week or so. I am with f2s.com and they have been great never had a problem upto now.
I set up my new netgear a few weeks ago via ethernet cable to my new pc and had a wireless adapter on the old pc. Everything went well initially until last week. My connection kept going down and I had problems getting back on.
I have now noticed that sometimes when I switch the router on the wireless icon does not light up (In the manual they describe this as the firewall connection). When this happens I have no problems with my connection but when I switch the router on and the light is green I cannot get connected eventhough the router is saying it is connected to the internet.
Having logged onto the router it was not coming up as a wireless router but just netgear firewall router. Is this faulty or could something be interfering with the firewall/security on my pc.
Thanks

have you donwloaded the lastest bios driver for the router from the netgear website.
also turn off wep encription for a while to see wether this is causing the problems or not
you have to test a few things and whitttle down what the problem could be
also try changing the channels on the router as there may be interference from other routers or appliances nearby0 -
Thanks Kill Bill
I have downloaded the latest firmware from the netgear site. Excuse my ignorance but how do I turn off the wep encription?0 -
did you encrypt it in the first place?

wpa-psk\tkip is better than wep.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
I did encrypt it. I set it all up through the set up wizzard but when I go to router login the wireless settings section has dissappeared.
I am now wondering if it is a hardware problem as sometimes when I switch the router on the wireless icon is not lighting up and I can connect with ease and have a very stable connection. Other times I switch it on and the wireless icon is lighting green but I then cannot connect to the internet (Internet icon on router green but my pc says local network only no internet connection).
Any ideas ??0 -
did you try doing a hard reset of the router, and updating firmware and setting it up from scratch??
also think I've read in the past, that you should download Dr TCP , and make sure the MTU is set to at least 1400, as a mis-set mtu can give you all sorts of trouble."If you really want to hurt your parents and you don't have nerve enough to be homosexual, the least you can do is go into the arts."0 -
Some models have a wireless daughterboard inside, and if that comes loose, it can exhibit this sort of behaviour. Is this a grey silver big 834 or the smaller white one?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

Its a small white one.
I did reset the router and download the latest firmware but dont know what the mut is.0 -
it says on the underside. it'll have DG834G v.#Its a small white one.
I did reset the router and download the latest firmware but dont know what the mut is.
1 through 4 I think atm. you didn't upgrade the firmware without checking what version you had first, did you?"If you really want to hurt your parents and you don't have nerve enough to be homosexual, the least you can do is go into the arts."0 -
Its a v3 and I did check before downloading to make sure I had the right one I just did know what mut stood for.0

You have not got a video sender by any chance or your neighbours.I ask as miy router used to be in my loft but like yourself i was getting dropouts all the time.
The people next door had a video sender so i put my router downstairs and its never dropped out yet.
By the way all Netgear routers have this type of problem just check out the netgear home page forums.0
