What happens to 'active BT line' after going to Virgin?

In order to get the best deals I tend to go with different broadband providers every year.
This year I have signed up to Virgin who's engineer will be coming next week to install the new Virgin line.
However the likelyhood is that in a year's time I will be leaving them for some other company.
I remember from the past that if you want to get a broadband and you haven't got an active BT line, you may end up with £100-£200 fee for having it reactivated.
Has anyone got an experience in swithing away from Virgin?
Did you have to pay to get the BT phone line reactivated?

The line will be stopped and after a few months, (if not in use) it will be ceased by Openreach and used to provide a line to someone else.
Some providers charge a fee, some offer free connection if taking other services such as broadband. It will depend which isp you choose and what offers are on at the time.0 -
I depends who you sign up with.
Some its a free connection.
Others charge around £65.
It's all part of the sums when you come to move!
P.S I'm not sure I would goto the trouble of having VM cable installed for only 18 months. There must be better deals else where.
