Waitrose Salisbury PCN Britannia

Hi all, first posting here so please be gentle with me.
Just received 2 PCN letters through the post. Two separate vehicles (1 for me and 1 for my wife). Both state that an overstay of 1 hour took place.
I have read the Newbies guide which is very well detailed but quite the process to follow if I choose to do so.
I've taken some photos around the carpark;
(It seems I can't post images as a new user)
The sign at the car park entrance does not mention that a fine might be imposed for overstaying. It does mention free parking for the first 3 hours only. It informs parkers to view more details at the Waitrose store entrance.
The sign closest to where I parked my car is the same as the car park entrance. Again, no mention that a fine might be imposed for overstaying.
At the Waitrose store entrance, the parking restrictions sign is not visible from the front (as you would approach the store via a zebra crossing).
Approach from the right-hand side, it is partially obstructed by a "Gorgeous Gardens" display stand. From the left, it is visible. The very limited wording states that "you may receive a 70 pound fine."
It does not state what circumstances decide whether you 'may' or 'may not' receive that fine. This is really ambiguous and suggests a certain amount of prejudice over who gets fined.
Given this information, would the forum recommend that it is worth fighting these tickets?

Every parking scam invoice is worth fighting, why are you calling it a "fine"?
What happened when you followed the advice on here to complain to Waitrose?
Waitrose are losing Ocardo to M&S are they really in that good a position to lose your custom as well?
The Blue one size fits all is your unique appeal especially written for your one off situation LOL!0 -
Hi fisherjim
Thanks for your reply. Like I said, my first post, I used the word "fine" because I am new to this subject.
I only got the PCN yesterday, so I am researching my course of action. I have not approached Waitrose yet. I think I will do that now before responding online to Britannia.
Do you think that the points that I raised in my OP are valid?

Who is the registered keeper (RK) of the 2 cars?
If your wife is the keeper of her car then she will have to sign any letters going forward
and change your opening post you have told everyone who drove
no 'I' etc- only the driver or RK from now on“You’re only here for a short visit.
Don’t hurry, don't worry and be sure to smell the flowers along the way.”Walter Hagen

I'm the registered keeper for both cars.0

The very limited wording states that "you may receive a 70 pound fine."
It does not state what circumstances decide whether you 'may' or 'may not' receive that fine. This is really ambiguous and suggests a certain amount of prejudice over who gets fined. If you exceed the speed limit you may get a fine. Are either of those sentences prejudicial?
If you drive recklessly you may have an accident.
Anyway, that aside...
If you have based your fourum username on you real name you are best advised to get it changed to something much more anonymous.
To help with that, you might like to read this short extract from The MSE Forum Guide - Frequently Asked Questions & Rules:Q. How can I change my username?
A. In most circumstances, this is not permitted.
The only reason we will change your username is if it puts your privacy at risk. This usually means you've inadvertently registered using your name, email address or something that gives away your identity within your username.
If you fall into this category, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com and request that it is changed, giving three alternative usernames in order of preference.0 -
were you customers of the supermarket then? as you were there for 4 hours it seems
same date for both notices?“You’re only here for a short visit.
Don’t hurry, don't worry and be sure to smell the flowers along the way.”Walter Hagen

Hi Keith
The car park in question monitors 'every' vehicle that enters and leaves. It can determine overstays of 1 minute, 1 hour, 1 day etc.
Does everyone get a ticket?
If not, why not?
What are the selection criteria?0 -
No, different dates (8 days apart) but both letters arrived yesterday.
This particular car park used to have a fella walking around with a camera taking pictures of car registrations. The previous signage was everywhere and was very specific. Every sign displayed the possible fine applicable for overstayers.
I guess they changed their tactics towards the end of last month.0 -
Could I just ask, fisherjim has suggested that I use the The Blue one size fits all template.
What sort of success does this letter have?0 -
Some PPCs cancel upon seeing the template, some reject it (but they would reject every attempt at appealing) and some are 50/50. Try it and see, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.0
