Avro tariff not listed
Comments
-
Avro launches and withdraws tariffs every few weeks and some comparison sites update faster than others. This is always likely to be the case.
A very quick way to spot a new tariff is to check with Energylinx and use "Find on this page..." to search for Avro.0 -

Thanks! Never heard of that one though. I'll give it a go.
Seriously? You claim you have never heard of that one?
You said in the OP "my current tariff doesn't appear on any of the comparison sites".
Energyhelpline is currently the first one in the list of accredited sites listed on the ofgem website
https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/consumers/household-gas-and-electricity-guide/how-switch-energy-supplier-and-shop-better-deal/compare-gas-and-electricity-tariffs-ofgem-accredited-price-comparison-sites
It is also one of just two ofgem accredited comparison sites (because they give exclusive cashback/free wine) listed within the MSE article on switching
https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/you-switch-gas-electricity/
... and it's been listed there for as long as I can remember
Where did you get this EHL exclusive tariff from, if not from Energyhelpline (or one of it's whitelabel/affiliated sites)??? :huh:0 -

You implied in the OP you had checked all the compariosn sites.

By all of the comparison sites I mean uSwitch, MSE and Compare the Market (whatever comes up first when you search "energy comparison"). Two or three is more than enough for me!
The missus sorted out the switch to Avro so she must have used that website (if you say that EHL stands for Energy Help Line - makes sense).0 -

As you can hopefully see from the above ofgem link, there are currently 11 ofgem accredited comparison sites, and MSE is not one of them (but it uses the pricing/tariff data from it's parent company, MSM, which is an ofgem accredited comparison site)
Similarly, CTM is not ofgem accredited, but it actually uses EHL which is.
So no surprise, the tariff IS actually listed on CTM site too :cool:0 -
Thanks, interesting. I assumed they would all use the same database hence looking on one or two and not finding the tariff led me to post here.0

Really?
If you really thought they all used thge same database, why would you check more than one site???
Originally you said you could not find it on any comparison site, then you said you only looked at 3 sites ... and I've already indicated it is on at least one of those three you said you looked at. :cool:0 -
The reason is the same as when you compare insurance etc: I assume they all use the same database but the providers in that database offer deals through some sites and not others. Always worth checking more than one.
Okay, so now you seem to be heading into troll territory I shall sign off. I came here looking for some help and have found it, from you and others, so thank you.0 -

There is no common database that either energy or insurance coomparison sites use.
If there was, who do you think pays to compile it??? Why can we not access it directlly, and save the oncost of the comparison sites???
In regards insurance, it is even worse because not all the comparison sites cover the same insurers, and as you indicate, even if they do, the price on one insurance comparison site may differ to the price for the same policy offered to the same prospective policy holder via another.
With energy comparison sites, there are no 'deals' as far as consumers are offered. The price you see on one comparison site will be the same as on any other, as it will be direct from the supplier.
(although some comparison sites may offer possible 'cashback' being a split of their referral money they receive for a successful switch made through them)
Having said that, some energy suppliers may make some tariffs exclusively available through third party sites, such as the exclusive Avro tariff you claim your missus arranged for you, obviously via EHL, as the tariff name clearly indidates.0
