Can't speak for the OP's circumstance obviously but these scammers have included a new clause to cover that signage quoted half way down in this similar case:

I am still unsure as whether its worth me pushing for a court appearance rather than being heard on the papers alone. Is there any reason not to do so? If I lose will I end up with further costs to cover?
Will it actually make any difference to the result or would it just be making sure it costs them as much as possible?0 -
not attending court means you cannot refute what they say, they may steer the judge and are unopposed, plus they may try to inflate the costs order against you if you lose, whereas an attendee can put counter arguments and objections in
therefore those who fail to attend can lose out financially as well as not having their say
minimising your own financial hit is just as important as winning , especially if you lose0
