For the 1st time in many a long year I have picked up some malware which I'm having trouble removing

Running Win 7 with Avast AV

Getting popup windows in lower right screen, which refer to 'onlinecontent.fun'

Have run MalwareBytes, AdwCleaner, Spybot and run Chrome Cleanup computer in Chrome Advanced settings but nothing has touched it yet

Full scan, remove everything it finds

I'll think you'll find he already has :)

I'm the 3rd person that's going to suggest you try ... removing avast.

Problem still exists after reinstall of Chrome

    ublock Origin installed and enabled

    All other extensions disabled

Chrome (and others) can leave traces such as preferences in the registry when you uninstall, it'll pick them up again when it's reinstalled.

Have you tried closing Chrome and used Firefox for a bit, if no pop ups come up then it's likely a browser issue.

In Chrome go to 'Settings' and scroll all the way down, click on 'Advanced Settings' and then all the way down again. You used to be able to reset Chrome to the original newly installed state but they have changed it to 'Restore Settings to their Original Defaults' which seems slightly less draconian but may help (presuming this is Chrome related).

No pop ups overnight in boot state - with Avast installed

Started using Chrome this morning with only uBlock Origin running

Problem is knowing how long to leave it before you can consider it pop up free - there is no obvious time/logic before they start

If issues today, will try a chrome free day tomorrow

Pop ups came back not long after starting Chrome

I have since performed the Chrome Reset as suggested by Colin in post #25

Not seen any pop ups since ( for 2 hours+ now)

No addins re-enabled since the reset

    @ Ian
yes the format of the pop up message box is reminiscent of other chrome notifications in the past
So will keep an eye on those

I had already done chrome reset before I saw your post, so not sure what was there prior to reset

But I still do have 5 entries in the Notifications section , they seem to have survived the reset ?
since they refer to google gmail and google docs and google drive- even though I have not yet re-enabled any add-ins

So pop up free at the moment

    Will slowly enable add-ins

Thanks to all for help so far !

Have you 'reset' the browser to it's Defaults?
