Some folks might remember that many years ago there was quite a thing in the papers and motoring press about the inaccuracy of the gauges at "free air" points.
Must be 40 years ago. Don't think I've used one since then.
(Tyres are getting a bit flat now though!)

BP near me charge a quid. But it's higher quality air at that price.0

Unfortunately the knock-on effect of these sort of charges is that there will be more people on the road with low tyre pressure which could be a factor in accidents and loss of life.
IMO government should make it mandatory for every petrol pump to have a free air pump that is maintained regularly, even if it means the cost is passed on to the customer.0 -

As above, get a foot pump, which you can carry around with you. Then you don't need to drive on under inflated tyres to a petrol station to be safe.0 -

I do have one, but it's much more convenient to do it using an industrial strength pump...I'm sure it's the same for a lot of people. Many people wouldn't go to the trouble of buying an air pump but if it was offered for 'free' then I'm sure they would fill up once in a while, atleast. That could only be good for the safety of themselves and other road users/pedestrians.
In the grand scheme of things, the stealth increase in fuel price would be miniscule, probably be 0.1pence per litre.0 -

And how do you reconcile them being made to provide free pumps along every petrol pump but they can pass on the cost of these to the customer if they want???
To say nothing of the delay at the pump for the next customer whilst the tyres get checked!0 -
Foot pump? Back to the 60s. Compressors are cheap!0

I was waiting to pay at Morrisons, and a young lady was asking the attendant what pressure she should put into her tyres. The response was that "it was written on the side of the tyre".
I did intervene and direct the lady to the car handbook.0 -

It should be on a sticker on the driver's side door pillar (B post).I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)
