Reclaim PPI - Advantage Finance

Advantge finance said i needed PPI, I told them that i was struggling to find a company to lend me the money and 5 other companies had refused me and they said that they would only lend me the money if i accepted the PPI, they used the fact i was struggling to enforce the PPI on me
I did proceed but i had tried others but didnt have any luck, do you dissagree that in this instance the PPI was mis-sold ?
I have found in the 3 companies who so far have admitted liability and upheld my complaint, that I was not suitable for PPI given my financial situation or health at the time. Yet at no time was I asked about my health but I did say to them that I was not on a very good salary.. heck I was working part time and a single parent at the time! I think you could still have a case.. anyway what is the harm in asking.. they can only say no and they may say yes!0 -
I do appriciate your help guys and not trying to stir anything but do i not fall under this catagory...this is taken from this site, the bit highlighted in red
A. Were you told it was compulsory?
It's a common complaint that consumers are told they must buy a policy from the same provider as the loan to be accepted for the product. This is mis-selling.- Any company that subscribes to the voluntary Lending Code agrees it won't insist you buy an insurance product from it. Therefore if the salesperson..
- Didn't make it clear the policy was optional or tell you about any cooling off period.
- Implied or stated it would be more expensive if you didn't take the insurance.
Implied or insisted you take out their policy to qualify for the product or help with your application.
Was very pushy when selling the product, so you felt you could not say no.
Would not let you continue with the application if you did not sign the insurance agreement as well.

They could have easily just said NO to you, but only you will be able to say if you think that you were mis-sold. If you feel that you were, then make the complaint.I work in Data Protection and spend my days dealing with CMC's. Only here trying to help!!0 -
Ok, thank you for your time and your thoughts0

Every case is different, and whilst some companies uphold the complaint there will always be those who don't. You do have to feel you were mis-sold PPI and I certainly was as was not ever asked if I wanted it and when I queried it on my statements, was told I had to have it or could not have had the card/loan. However, that being said, I was also told that due to my financial status at the time, it is in their considered opinion, that I was not suitable for the PPI.. for instance I would have been able to facilitate help if I had fallen into arrears through sickness or loss of work, because my a family member would have come to my aid. I am not sure what they would have said had I stated I had no one to help. Maybe then they would not have upheld the complaint. I don't think there is any right answer or wrong answer here, I think just go with your gut feeling. If you feel that you want to give it a go then do so! They could look at it again perhaps.. you can say in the letter on Resolver that you did previously complain but used a company as you were not aware you could do it yourself and could they please look at it again. (there is a question asking that actually) Whilst the template used is in a format, when you are taken to edit it, you can add your own thoughts there and personalise it. If you get stuck, let me know and I will see if I can help. Not an expert, but learning as I go along.0 -

It's obviously a bit hazy due to it being so long ago, Advantage finance was keen to lend me the money there wasn't any hesitation and I do remember feeling the pressure to not only accept the PPI but to continue with the application for the loan in general...I was a lot younger then and a lot more naive.

I’m a bit torn as to whether I could say it was 100% mis-sold as the pressure was there but also maybe it should’ve been due to my financial state at the time but definitely feel they took advantage. I too would’ve been able to receive help from a family member (or more than 1) should’ve I needed it...I made them aware of this

Hi chbp .. go through Resolver as one of the questions there is have you previously made a claim.. you can still pursue this... and you will have the back up of Resolver and then the Financial Ombudsman should you need to enlist their help.
From what you have said there, that strikes me that you were pressured into PPI ...
Let's face it what did we ever gain from any of that money..? Zilch! In fact I tried to make a claim on one who has already paid out over a £1.3k to me and because I had been injured in a car accident and gone back to work too soon, ie for 1 day only I hasten to add, only because my manager was pressurising me.. she then sent me home when she saw the state I was in and had to drive me too. I was off for a further 6 weeks (11 altogether) and on SSP only with a house to run and a single parent to boot and they did not want to know... they said I had to be off continuous weeks to benefit! I thought what a waste of time and money, so I tried to cancel it as told them it was not worth the paper it was written on and they would not let me cancel! Ridiculous situation!:(0
