Perhaps the Banks are not as lovable and cuddly as some would have us believe. They have spent years marketing to the masses, the Government now demand that we all have a Bank Account, so now the Banks are closing accounts. Bring back cash and bartering!
Not much point coming on here in the first place then was it?
I did mean that some people don't log on every day, but full marks on a good response, it made me chuckle.
  • Barclays did it to me a few years ago because someone tried to open an account with them in my name,so my account was closed and i also had no notice until the ATM swallowed my card.
  • firstly to those who had a little joke at my expense there...ha ha very funny.GET A LIFE!!! I do not have time to get onto the computer all the time. i have a full time job and a daughter to look after as well as a house to run.

To those who were helpful, thank you. I realise that I was a bit vague with my first post and apologise for that. The a/c was just a simple current account to which i had money going into every month. however before i opened this account I did have a previous lloyds account which i asked to be closed as i was a victim of internet fraud. This was a Select account which I was paying £7 a month on. as far as i was concerned they closed the account up until i got a letter saying i owed money as thie account had gone overdrawn.

I was very annoyed as this account was supposed to have been closed. I phoned them up and told them I was not paying anything as the account should have been closed. They said that they would sort it. I received nothing further.

I then went to the bank to get money out of my current account and was told that they had closed both accounts because of the charges on the account that I instructed them to close.

To top it all off I received a letter yesterday from a debt collections agency writing to reclaim the money I owe to Lloyds.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Id get on the phone and give them an ear bashing for a start, make a complaint showing where they have gone wrong and take it from there. ie, if you dont get a satisfactory response follow their complaints procedure through, then possibly financial ombudsman. I would make the point that their actions could well have left you with no way of buying food etc for your family. do some research on banks closing accounts and what they should have done first so you can go in fully armed with information.

Good advice. Of you get nowhere on the phone (As I suspect will be the case) I would check out the complaints procedure and go straight to the final letter setting out the details very clearly. My experience of the customer 'service' areas is that they just fudge the issue, quote some irrelevant rule and claim everything is correct. I would send a copy to the debt collectors with a covering note advising that you will not communicate further until the dispute with Lloyds is resolved, and if they try calling, be firm and polite, refer to this letter, and terminate the conversation.
