Our Plusnet broadband contract finishes this month. Did not receive a reminder about this only an email that advised that my next DD payment will be £35 up from £27.
I checked their website and had this chat:
You are now chatting with xxxx.
Good afternoon, How can I help?
Me; why has my bill gone up to £34.98 for broadband service. We only pay £27.00?
xxxx at 16:33, Jul 9:
so the contract you was on came to a end
we can re offer going forward £26.99 fix price
Me;
is that still 38Mb +?
xxxx at 16:37, Jul 9:
yes what you have now
fix for 18 months
Me at 16:43, Jul 9:
So I would be tied in for 18 months? looks like I can get SSE broadband for £23 a month
xxxx at 16:43, Jul 9:
the price is not fixed which means it can still increase in contract
Me at 16:53, Jul 9:
OK so will switch to other provider
xxxx at 16:54, Jul 9:
ok we will do 12 months 23 pounds
Me at 17:01, Jul 9:
Sorry will switch anyway as broadband companies need to reward loyalty and not to take ordinary customers for granted. There was no notification of the end of the contract coming up and no pre warning of the 30% price increase.
xxxx at 17:02, Jul 9:
this is the same with sse as there contract is a variable contract
Me at 17:04, Jul 9:
They say it is fixed for a term and if not I will not hang around with them if they put the price up. Thanks for your help anyway.

cheers[/I]
Although they finally agreed to drop the price I am not happy that these companies have no regard for loyal customers and only reward the hagglers. Happy to move on and thanks to MSE for making it easy to research and switch to a better deal. Hope this helps others.

It is customers who don't haggle or who can't be bothered to seek out the best deals and then end up paying over the odds that the companies like!
The whole point of haggling or "new customer deals" is to get you in, maybe with an add-on or two and then hope you forget when your contract end date is.0 -

When you signed-up to Plusnet why didn't you place a reminder in your computer's/phone's/physical calendar that you were approaching the end of your contract's minimum term? The same as anyone would do when entering into any minimum-term contract.0
