I myself have been through this process recently, I applied for Premier based on the triple rewards. I called them today and he asked a few questions. I was honest, explained it said income and not salary, he agreed, I told him I don't earn 75k but with my partner I did.

He worked out how much is going into the account per month - and said I am eligible. He then asked me what my salary was, I told him but said my partners would be going into there.

He mentioned credit checks etc, I hope they don't do one (there is no mention on the website) as I have had a few lately.

Half way through he encounters an IT problem and he is going to call me back tomorrow?! If only my IT problems lasted 24 hours, I'd never do any work.

    I hope this helps

They will almost certainly perform a credit search when applying for a current account - this is standard practise as most accounts can go overdrawn even if you elect for an arranged overdraft limit of £0. That said I'd be interested to hear how this goes, so keep us updated.

The application 100% involves CRA checks.

I’m an existing customer, when I upgraded my NatWest account they didn’t search me, so unsure why Barclays would need to do a full credit check?

Needless to say they didn’t call me back. I’ll ring them today at some point I guess, although I’m not 100% sure I want another search.

In my experience it depends on who trigger the update. I was automatically upgraded to Premier due to net income coming in from both salary and dividends. In previous years I had a similar turnover including money coming from my wife to contribute to the mortgage and it never triggered an upgrade (it is rich to consider that an income as when you do any financial application there is a dedicated area for “other household income” and thus most often asked to specify exactly what one contribution to Mortgage/rent/bills is). Anyway, being automatically upgraded I was never credit searched (even by Lloyds), however when asked to be upgraded for other accounts and/or opening another account with an existing bank, I always had a credit search. I have to say that not all credit agency may have the search in their file even though they may be reporting about the account.

The main “benefit” is having a “relationship manager” call you every few weeks for an accord review.

By the way, this is such a myth! I get a call once a year to check on how my banking is going and what my financial priorities are. They never tried to sell me anything and only informed me that they had their own investment platform if I would like to explore it (as I informed them that I have an investment portfolio which include companies shares as well as investments funds participations). Last year, as my mortgage offer was coming to an end, they gave me good advice on how to easily make a switch within Internet banking... plus I get few free bottles of wines from majestic every so often, the English Heritage membership, I used to enjoy the occasional free coffee (now gone) and Picture House cinema membership discounts ...

Also, the same is with lloyds equivalent service: a call once a year, this time always from the same person to check on how happy I am about Lloyds services that I use and the nice lady always goes the extra mile to chase something or fix a problem for me, which I would probably not have been bothered raising if she had not called.

I was speaking from experience. The calls have generally been once a year, but this year I got 3 in less than 6 months. To be fair they went away when I told them and haven’t had another (the last was around 3 months ago), but it was slightly irritating.

I agree the calls are generally helpful rather than hard sell, and if I wasn’t checking my account online so often I might appreciate them more. I just got annoyed by the frequency.
