Poor reception with Orange

I am having problem receiving call at my work place and so decided to leave Orange. But I am left with a mobile [SEw200i] which is locked to Orange. Orange wants £20 to unlock it.
But someone did mention that reception might be related to Mobile phone itself!
Should I try a different mobile Or move to a different network?
Please also help me findingout the best network coverage
