Car Accident caused by a Local Council Dustbin Lorry

So if there was no bin lorry she would have reversed anyway?
Glad you've cleared that one up.
(I notice you don't appear to want to deal with the earlier example I gave, involving somebody passing a parked car and hitting an oncoming one. Perhaps this suits you better?)0 -
Was this in temporarily stationary moving traffic, or was the bin lorry actually stopped making collections?
I can't imagine how you would get so close to a lorry to worry it would reverse into you. I frequently follow a bin lorry out of our road every Thursday morning. I give it and the crew plenty of room - at least two car lengths. Whenever I've seen a bin lorry reversing out of a side-street or whatever, it always has a couple of spotters at the rear - and I still give it plenty of room!0 -

Glad you've cleared that one up.
Anyway, whether there were two or three vehicles involved is wholly academic, since the third one disappeared without trace.0 -
No, I’m not suggesting that. My point is that the collision was not caused by the lorry, but by the lady’s ill-judged reaction to it.

So what caused her to reverse?0 -
So what caused her to reverse?
It was a panic reaction that caused her to reverse.
Without further evidence it's all a bit of guess work. The key things to consider are the distances involved.
Would the bin lorry have hit the car if avoiding action wasn't taken - or did the bin lorry stop and carry on forward short of where the car was stopped?
How far back did the car reverse - was it excessive for giving a bit more space and time for the bin lorry to react without anyone being hit?0 -
So what caused her to reverse?
She clearly thought the lorry was going to collide with her car. She may, or may not, have been right. I suspect not, but we will never know.
She had a number of options, and chose an obviously dangerous one, seemingly regardless of the consequences.0 -
Panic.

So why do you argue it's not connected?0 -
I’m arguing that the accident didn’t occur “owing to the presence” of the lorry, but owing to the actions of the lady driver. If she had not panicked, the collision wouldn’t have happened.
According to the OP's first post, the accident occurred because of the presence of the reversing lorry, and that caused the action of the lady driver - if the lorry had not been present and reversing, the accident would not have occurred .0 -

So...years ago I was driving along one summer, some eye candy was passing I looked at her and ran into the rear of the car in front, is the eye candy responsible for the shunt?0
