Compensation for no hot water for six weeks

6 weeks with no hot water is excessive. You can't take cold showers for six weeks, or spend hours filling a bath from the kettle.
Half the month's rent seems like a more reasonable compensatory amount.0 -
150 is more than most people would ever get offered I say get over yourselfAn answer isn't spam just because you don't like it......0

No but you could go to a local sports center to use the shower without giving yourself mental health issues if there isn’t one at work and no friends or family nearby.
It’s inconvenient yes, annoying, frustrating yes, but hardly the landlord or agents fault if the Op can’t cope.
It also doesn’t take hours if you put a kettle and 4 saucepans of water on the hob. Maybe 15 minutes which is not the end of the world.0 -

Under Section 11 of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985, you have the right to expect your landlord to carry out repairs in a ‘reasonable time’. If it’s an emergency repair as you’ve got no heating or hot water, your landlord should fix this in 24 hours.
Not sure where the animosity is coming from with some of the other posters. I'd imagine its some very bored people who feel the need to belittle others to make their day more interesting... who knows.
You do have rights as a tenant, as above, there's a whole act about it. Being without hot water isn't acceptable for that amount of time and while I'm sure all of us COULD shower at a local gym, lets not pretend this is a feasible plan just to have a wash before or after work. It would be extremely inconvenient and also stressful especially if this 'sports club' isn't close to home or work.
I don't think you're being unreasonable OP, but as others have said, it could be hard to quantify the reasonable amount of compensation due to you given the level of stress/inconvenience incurred is subjective.
Good luck with your complaint though, I hope it gets sorted0 -

Have you tried to get a new/fix boiler in 24 hours? Op does have access to water, the kettle.
OP you can by all means take your LL to a small claims court and claim for damages but you would need to quantify them. Whether you will win is another thing.
Some LL don't fix boilers for months on end. they don't even get fined or warning."It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

A new boiler maybe not 24 hours, but fixing a broken one? Yes I would expect that or at most within the week if parts needed ordering. Emergency home cover and landlord insurance is usually in place for very good reason.
And note that the act specifically refers to HOT water.0 -

It doesn't say hot water from a tap. The OP has access to hot water via a kettle or saucepan on a stove. The LL has been slow to get fixed so yes something by way of compo is warranted and £150 is quite generousThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. but sometimes you cant fix an old boiler and the way forward is a new one....and actually its quicker to fit a new boiler sometimes than to mess with fixes.
Emergency cover is indeed a possibility however it doesn't magically fix a boiler or indeed install another any quicker in my experience....and Landlord insurance wouldn't necessarily cover the situation either.
In this case also I believe the tenant wasn't without the means to obtain hot water...a kettle full is enough to provide an adequate wash if needed.
I'm not old,but I can remember my grandmother in the 80's not having central heating and an outside toilet as standard in her rented accommodation...
Snowflakes comes to mind if you cant really see past something and how to make the best of a situation. There is far too much reliance on passing the blame to someone else and a compensation culture for the slightest inconvenience.in S 38 T 2 F 50

It's a compensation culture because people don't want to live in inadequate conditions and continue paying full price for it? You're paying a premium to live comfortably in a rented property, including access the standard amenities like hot water. It isn't due to generational differences or people becoming 'snowflakes', it's that tenants are finally becoming aware of their rights.
Yes, it may have been different in the 80s but times have changed since then and there's very good reason that new technologies like combi boilers were invented.
I'd love to know how you would 'make the best of a situation' if it was you living without hot water for 6 weeks. Of course, clearly being made of tougher stuff I doubt you'd vent/moan or feel inconvenienced by the situation.0
