Tao81 I cant understand this question
I have Norton on my machine, trial period has run out and I want to get rid of it. Have read the advise here so can I ask, what does someone like me do who has downloaded and installed both free avg antivirus and free spybot before uninstalling Norton??
Your not running Avg and Norton together ? you need a firewall Comodo is ok and anti virus i like avast .
You need to uninstall Norton all together once you have downloaded the new programs. Then install the new programs
  • I find Norton to be arrogant, unhelpful and they refuse to accept responsibility for any compatibility issues. I've had a year of denied access to various sites, movies, graphics and even navigation toolbars which has been very frustrating. I emailed and they ignored me; I called on the phone and they blamed my ISP; I disabled the blessed thing and it still made no difference. My subscription expired so I unistalled it and went with McAfee (anti-virus comes very cheap & the firewall is free with AOL) et voila - all the problems disappeared.

Finally, take care if you do have AOL, (they are also quick to blame everyone else!) configuring Norton to work with it is a NIGHTMARE and their assistance is only marginally better than useless.
mmmm, still seeking something witty to be my auto-signature . . . so this will have to suffice for now ;)

Norton is notorious for being difficult to remove, use this special tool to ensure it is completely removed.

Thanks all. I see Norton is not a favourite on this site.
I have used Norton for 8 years and never had a problem. However this year the subscription going up to £39.99 is a bit much. So I will take all your good advice and install the free one.

    Thanks all.

    Ralph.

    Hi

I chickened out last year when my Norton needed re-newing:o and I paid up. When I saw how much they wanted this year I decided to be brave and downloaded AVG then ditched Norton. Best thing I've done in ages...easier to do than I thought it would be and things are much wizzier now :j

i just installed norton 360 and discovered the 1 year thing. what a rip off. they should continue to protect until they become too out of date and a new upto date antivirus needs installing. for the purchase price they should last at least 2 years. i will be getting one of the free ones when the year is up as well. i presume the free ones update regularly as well?

Avast is spot on with updating it self. I always seemed to have a problem with AVG was always the wrong colur on the task bar meaning it hadnt updated. When ever i ran Belaric advisor with Avg installed it always said my anti virus is out of date.Never a problem with Avast. If i had to pay for Avast i would .
Norton is Hogging your computer. When it runs out ditch it,no one with a home computer needs to pay for any protection <so my techie friend told me >
