Clearscore want me to upload my passport and a selfie

Tried to sign up for clearscore. Entered all my information and credit file Q&A then it said please upload a copy of your ID and a selfie of your face and your ID. I clicked that X in the corner of my screen when I read that.
Do these companies really want to data mine me, hold a picture of my face and ID and have me sell my soul in exchange for my credit report? Haha. Jog on.
I sent them an email saying I refuse to send a selfie to them. Next they'll be asking for nudes and before you know it I'll be meeting Liam Neeson in Taken 4.

You can see your Statutory report online with Equifax direct whenever you like (on demand). So there is no need to use ClearScore if you don't want.I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.

A totally excessive request. You did the right thing in refusing, especially in the light of what can happen when a company gets hold of your personal data:

In this case the passengers' passport details weren't compromised, but they could have been.0 -
It's not data-mining - it's confirming you ID.
No different than going into a bank branch after opening an account.0 -

They are simply doing due diligence in confirming your identity, in as user-friendly a way as possible as required by law. The other alternatives would probably be sending certified copies of your documents by mail, or a visit somewhere in person - all of which have more flaws than sending an encrypted selfie to a secure data server. You'll find all sorts of situations where people will try to misuse your data - this is probably the least of your worries. That said, if you don't agree with what they are trying to do, then you don't have to use their services. Get copies of your statutory reports from Equifax directly - unless they also ask for copies of your ID to verify your identity.0

This is becoming a standard for Mobile Banking Nowadays and the CRA is just this practice.0 -
There are alternatives and you can get the statutory reports for free too., so don't send if you feel its excessive. Did you fail their credit questions (confirming existing CC and balances etc) that they tend to use when joining up.0

Under the GDPR, CRAs can refuse to supply a statutory credit report unless you provide such documents as they reasonably require to identify you. Therefore, they might insist on a passport even for your basic credit report.
Once you have supplied your passport, it will go on their systems for use for any other purposes they can make money from. They can use their legitimate interests excuse to sell many other services to many third parties using information contained on your passport that you were bullied into supplying to get your credit report.
For example, they may create a facial biometric model from your selfie / photo and sell the model to companies that provide CCTV services. This may be done without your consent because your passport was provided to identify you, so you should reasonably expect it to be used to identify you in other ways.
I would be interested to hear of anyone who was asked to supply a passport for a statutory request but managed to get round it.0 -
Do you wear tin foil hats when you apply for stuff?0

I sent them my passport and driving license - but they still wouldn't give me access. I've got my equifax and experian accounts, and use noddle, credit club etc - but have tried twice with clear score, and for some reason, they won't let me on, won't explain why, and don't seem to have an appeals process.0
