Is my credit utilisation failing my O2 contract credit check?

  • Why did you register stuff to that address if you weren’t residing there
  • I was renting a room in a house of 6 bedrooms, and didn't trust a couple of the other residents
  • You should have everything registered where you actually live regardless.

They won’t change or remove the addresses on your credit files regardless of this.
  • Yes I'm well aware of that now

My credit rating is "Good" at around 620.

However, O2 just failed my credit check for a new phone contract. They did the same about 6 months ago. They won't give me the reason.

I pay a mortgage, bills, the usual. Never had a late payment on anything.

The only thing I can think of is Credit Card utilisation. I'm usually around 50-60% on my main Credit Card, as I do all my spending on it, but it's paid off in full by direct debit every month. Could this be having an impact?

It could, but it depends on what CRA they use. O2 checks both Experian and Equifax, and Equifax has the bad habit of dropping some customers from the Electoral Roll for no reason. O2 gave problems to me as well, and the reason was Equifax dropping me from the Electoral Roll. I've resided at the same address, and been on the ER at that address, for the last 2 yrs.

Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool

  • Had to ask the council about the electoral role dates directly.

Equifax want Account Numbers and details for the missing card and utilities, which is fine, though I had to call the bank as they use an internal account reference in data sent to the credit report companies.

Heard back from Mobiles.co.uk. Apparently, even though the address has changed on the O2 system, they're still storing my dad's address somewhere (probably for credit/fraud checks), and it's triggering a fraud rule as it's not in my previous addresses list. Should here back later today to find out if they've been able to resolve it.
  • It's down to the lenders/banks to report to the CRA's - not for you to ask them to or to ask the CRA to get them to either.

Not all institutions report to all CRA's

Pretty sure it's the CRA's responsibility to contact the banks with the information I give them to fix it.

The missing card and utilities appear on my other credit reports.
  • No not at all.

Lenders can choose which CRA's they want to report to.

They're not obligated to report to all of them (and some not any).
