If you get accepted for an account, then download the app - from the app you initiate blue rewards.

you can also initiate the switch from the app - go to products and then current account offers and just initiate the switch from there

    Thanks for the reply....

So why do some have to visit a branch to complete the process?

An ID issue or just that's what Barclays want you to do?

Some have to visit branch to
    1. start a switch if they have no access to Barclays app
    2. if they have initiated switch as part of account opening process to show id within 5 days

When I went onto the Barclays website to switch it told me I had to start by making an account. Since then it hasn't even mentioned the switch process again and has given me access to the online site, app and telephone without an in-store ID check when opening the account.

They don't seem to be connected under one overall application where you do both simultaneously.

it tells me is to go onto the app to start the switch process with no mention on if I need to go into a branch at the end if the application.

Directly after opening a Barclays account on their website there is an option to initiate a switch but it states that it is necessary to show id in a branch within 5 days in order for the switch to proceed.
I was going to initiate a switch at this stage but didn't because i would not have been able to get to a branch to show id within the 5 days!

Yea I am also unable to get into branch within 5 days so will be annoyed if they only tell me this at the end!

What you need to do is open a Barclays account online - nothing else at this stage just do that .

assuming you are accepted wait for the debit card to come, the account to be set up at cetera et cetera then download the Barclays app and login.

at this point you are a Barclays customer of course. if you then want to switch in a donor account hen from the Barclays app go to products and then current account offers and switch in from there

no need to visit a branch

Also activate blue rewards from the app at the same time

P.s. just be careful about the date on which you activate blue rewards as clearly you don't want to activate blue rewards until you know your switch date and indeed until you know the date the direct debits on the Barclays account will pay out

so for example if your 2 direct debits will irst payout on say the 10th of August there is no point activating blue rewards for July

This explaination seems much clearer to me, thank you.

I shall proceed with an application later.

I hate going into banks and the Barclays one is so much of a pain to get to in our city, I hate the place anyway. Experience with HSBC branch locally was enough to put me off ever wanting to put money with them, to say I knew the switch rules better than there staff said it all.

I understand the account fee is taken on 2nd working day of the month, so is that fee actually for the previous month or the month it is taken?
It states that the month blue rewards is turned on the first payment will be taken the beginning of following month.
Also states for rewards to be paid the following conditions must have been fulfilled in the PREVIOUS month
    1. Pay in £800
    2. Pay £4 account fee
So my understanding is that in the month rewards is activated no rewards will be paid for that month as account fee condition will not have been fulfilled. Is this correct?
