How to counter a “goodwill gesture”?

Delays on new builds seem to be normal, not the exception.0

@thrugelmir Apparently their cladding contractor went bust but 11 months is surely taking the mick.0

Might be a daft question but have you actually told them you want £6,000? I ask because people often don’t say what they want when they complain.
Why on earth are the guardian interested in this incredibly common and non-newsworthy set of circumstances?!0 -
Even in a declining market, I'm not sure you've got much bargaining power. Londoners don 't usually buy new-builds, for a range of reasons.
What plots you won't buy will appeal to overseas buyers looking for long-term investments, so the developer doesn't care.
You'll be stuck in negative equity for a while, feeling resentful at your additional expenses.
I'd be leaving this one and looking elsewhere. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
Is there a longstop date in the contract that allows you to withdraw if it’s not completed by a certain date?
If so the builder will be concerned you may withdraw and this will help you better negotiate “goodwill”.0 -
I have told them. And the consumer champions are interested in it as the circumstances we have faced are not common. I'm not just talking delays...0

Longstop has now passed.0

You should count yourself lucky! I'm almost a year delayed and my goodwill offer is £500 and they won't budge for more!0
